Question about 2004 Ford F150

2 Answers

Hi, I have a 2004 Ford F150 ( new body style ) with a 5.4 L 3V. The problem I've been having and no body seems to know what it could be. The truck idles fine and is not erratic or anything but when I accelerate lightly without pressing the gas to hard ( like trying to save gas ) and it shifts into 2nd gear, it wants to bog down and the rpm's dip a little even while pressing the gas pedal. Then all of a sudden its like it catches up with the amount of pedal I put in and it will throw you back in the seat like I was pressing it to the floor. There is no jerking or anything and all shifts are smooth. The problem seems to be worse with the air conditioner is on and the truck is at normal temp. I have no idea what it could be!!! The only thing I can think of is the tps or something like that. Diagnostic scanner shows NO codes at all! Thanks!

The valve on the intake manifold that controls the idle and will speed up when AC is turned on ,i think the problem is here ,its not working right allowing air to by the throttle buttlefly causing the mixture to be out .so when ECU senses that the misture is weak it will overcompensate

Does the idle air control valve do anything while driving? I took it in one time and they checked the fuel pressure and everything was fine. They reprogramed it and it did great for 2 days but then goes back to doing what I described earlier. Like I stated, it seems worse when its hot outside and the faster my ac spins the worse it seems. I live in the deep south and its humid and HOT! Lol

wow its hot just like alicante spain ,sweating over hot keyboard this end i can tell you so full sympathys for no A/C ,with a 5.4 litre engine you should have no problem with driving the AC ,or pulling a 40 ton artic truck along either ,No their is a valve on the manifold that allows air in to keep the idle up like when you drop it into drive or put the ac on and i think something is wrong along these lines but if you ask me about a ford transit or a ford D series diesel truck that i have produck knowledge about but this vehicle i have only seen on CSI or similar american tv programme

I bet it is hot over there!! Thanks for your help! The only down side is that on this kind of truck, there is no actual valve on the throttle body. It does what you described but its made into the throttle body because its all one price. These trucks are "drive by wire" meaning there is no mechanical conection to the throttle body. The throttle runs off of 3 potentiometers on the pedal and sends voltage the throttle body. So whatever condition it is, must be located in the throttle body. Thanks for giving me a direction to go in! May the Lord bless you my friend!

I need to know were the IAC valve is

For a new Body style 2004 ( not a Heritage or Lightning ) there is not an IAC.

The IAC functions are now part of the throttle by wire operation in the 2004-08 MY F-150s.
The Throttle Plate Position Controller is part opened by the PCM ( actually a chip embedded in the PCM specific to this function ) when the engine is at idle and the throttle is off ( i.e. not be pressed down ).

If you are talking about a 2004 Heritage or Lightning ( the same body style as the 99-03 MY ), the IAC is on the back of the throttle body, under the plastic throttle body cover.

Not too sure which 2004 version you are talking about, just wanted to cover both 2004 options for the location on the IAC.

Location of the IAC value on a 2004 Ford F150 XLT pickup with an 8 cylinder Triton engine

The New Body Style 5.4 does not have an IAC, this is controlled by the throttle position motor on the side of the throttle body, and is operated by the PCM ( new body style is throttle by wire ).

If this is a 2004 Heritage or lightning ( the same body style as the 97-03 MY ) the IAC is on the back the throttle body, held on with 2 8mm screws. You would need to remove the plastic throttle body cover to get to it.

Trying to find fuse for reverse light to replace

For the new body style 2004, this is in the cab fuse panel, Fuse #14.

If you did not get an owners manual with your truck ( purchased used ), you can download one from Ford :

If this is a 2004 Heritage or Lightning model ( the old body style like the 99-03 MY ) the fuse is cab fuse panel, fuse # 5.

Ford f150 with auto transmission cannot be moved out of park

If this is a new body style 2004, check the shift interlock fuse, cab fuse panel F16.
If the fuse tests good with a meter to both sides ( to ground when pressed down power should be there ) check both the Tan w/ REd stripe wire and the pink w/ light green stripe wire , it would be a case of needing a new shift interlock solenoid.

If this is an old body style truck, check the stop lamp / brake light fuse. The shift interlock uses the same fuse for both.

If you replaced the tail lamps with LEDs in either 2004 version, and did not use load resistors, this could be the source of your problem ( truck thinks the brake lamps are out ). You would need to install load resistors on them.

IAT sensor plug 2004 Ford it located seperately or is it integrated in the MAF plug? I see a separate set of two wires but I don't know? It's the standard 5.4 L V8 on my supercrew Lariat.

The MAFS and IAT are in a single connector on the 04-08 MY F-150s.
This is for a new body style 2004, not the Heritage / Lightning models.

The IAT sensor is the Gray w/ Red stripe & Gray wire pairs in the connector. The connector is a 6 pin ( 1 row of 6 pins ) black connector.

Needing a diagram of seating components of a 2004 ford 150 svt lightning so that i can order replacement parts

The Ford Dealers that sell parts online have the parts system available for viewing and ordering.

I personally use Tasca ( RI ) and Southwest Ford ( TX ), last I looked there are about 15 Ford dealers that sell parts online. /

When you go to Dealer's site they have 2 catalogs, mechanical and collision ( body parts ).
Enter your MY as 2003, so you don't accidentally get new body style parts, or Heritage model parts.
Collision catalog path ( menu on left ) is :
Seats and tracks ->, Front seat components
The submenu has the parts listed ( cover, cushion, etc ).

You can always call the parts hot line listed on the site to confirm your part selection to make sure it is not Heritage or New Body style parts.
The 2 above are very good about answering questions.
