1997 HONDA ACCORD WOULD START

Hi,
I have a honda accord 1997. I have observed that my car sometimes doesnot start especially on a hot day around afternoon between 12 - 2 noon. If I wait for about 30-45 minutes, it starts and runs fine.

Can you please let me know what the issue might be in my car.

May be, Your coolant machine is working too hard.. Because when hot/summer day , if my machine in long journey , and you resting your car , the fan sound is still on although you turn off your machine.. It's means, the coolant machine , or your engine component must be changed... I hope so.

I had the same problem with my 1991 honda civic, and yes, this is common with all honda's. I changed the main relay and the issue went away. It is worth trying. The relay is normally found behind the left drivers side kick panel. It is black or brown, aprox 3" by 1 1/2" box. buy the new one first and you will be able to identify it. About 20mins and a couple tools and you can replace this yourself.

You have a common Honda problem. There is an issue with the main relay. Look at some other posts about this problem - also look at the Honda Civic. This component is sensitive to heat.

Car won't go over 45 miles per hour, won't shift into third gear

Probably the speed sensor @ transmission (especially since your trouble began with speedo. Is your check/service engine light on? If yes have you had the codes 'read'?

MY HONDA ACCORD 1997 LX V4 I DRIVE MY CAR AND IT WILL WORK FINE FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS BUT THEN GETS TO A POINT THAT THE CAR WONT STAR I LEAVE THE CAR FOR A DAY OR TWO AND THEN THE CAR WILL START DOES SOME...

I recommend that you check the main relay under the driver's side of the dash. it is a common failure in Hondas. the relays circuit board gets cracks in the solder points and causes the car not to start. this usually happens when the weather is hot and the car sits in the sun with the windows up. a quick check is to listen for 2 clicks when you turn the key on. look at PGM-FI light if you don't hear the second click when the light comes on then the relay is not setting to start the engine.

My 1999 honda accord cuts off while i'm driving and sometimes i have problems starting it back especially whenit's hot outside

I have a '99 accord also and had this exact problem a couple of years ago. I took it to a Honda dealer, they knew what the problem was as soon as I told them. I think it was the starter or ignition switch?? It was a recall item though and they fixed it without charge. No problems since then.

Car starts fine sometimes, runs great. Other times it turns over good but doesn't want to start. Almost sounds like it is flooded.

Hi there,

Honda has a problem in hot weather... If you car has been setting in the sun.... Especially a black car... .and it fails to start..... Cranks over but will not start.... Open the hood and let it sit for about 5 minutes and then try to restart it...... If it works you know that the problem occurs from an over temp in probably the ignition module..... There is also a module on the car that is refered to as the MAIN Power Module... This module has been known to have bad soldering points. If your problem is only related to starting it could be the Main Module.

Hope this helps...........
thanx for using Fixya
have a good day
bye
take care...

Every now and then my car cranks but does not start as if it was flooded. It starts several minutes later. This has been going on for at least 5 years at about 60,000 miles. It seems the problem only...

I read on the website autorepair.com that this is a classic Honda main relay problem. The author of the article explains that this can be a complicated problem, especially when another component is also going bad at the same time - like an ignition coil. I have heard of electrical geeks using "cold" to diagnose these sorts of problems. I wonder if you could check the main relay by placing a plastic bag of ice on it.

Car cranks just fine but will not start, tried cold start fuel, but didn't help. it actually starts once a day usually in the morning but that's it.

These cars have a problem with the main relay. They quit working when they get hot. This explains why your car will start when it is cold. Check out some of the other posts about this problem, also the Honda Civic.
