Question about 2005 Ford Escape

I had my 2005 ford escape serviced. New coils and plugs. I started having transmission problems took it back to the mechanic. he fixed the transmission problem after 3 days service emission light came on, took it back he checked everything could not find anything wrong got the light out. The car is driving great to me but the light came on again. What is the problem.

The light comes on because you have a troble code being set.Go to auto zone or other parts store that does a Free Read of you check engine light and find out the trouble code numbers,they will give you better idea of what is going on..Share this information with us so we can help you better...

Ford 3.0 no power to coil


The PCM does not power the coils, it only controls the ground circuit.

I have changed out my spark plugs and PCM as I had a misfire on coil 4 in my 2005 Ford Escape. Took it back to Ford and had them reprogram, had to have an extra key cut, plus they claimed they had to...


Sounds like they're taking you for a good ride. Most dealers don't specialize in electronics and will swap out every conceivable part on a vehicle and the original root cause remains. Yes, the powertrain control module sends signals to your ignition system as when to fire each cylinder but I can almost guarantee you that they have not tested the wiring harness from the pcm to your coil/s in question. You could even do this simple test yourself of removing the spark plug of your #3 cylinder and starting the vehicle with the plug still attached. Notice for one if there is any spark at all. If there is none, then it is more than likely the wiring as I suggested, if you have a red or orange (very weak) spark then it is a faulty coil winding. If it was a white or blueish (high intensity) spark you wouldn't be reading this because it would be functioning properly. Hope this helps and let me know what you come up with. I used to troubleshoot electronics for various dealers when they could not come up with any solutions. It is always a good idea to consider using a knowledgeable auto electric shop they have a tendency to find the problem a lot faster than the dealer would, and both charge by the hour for troubleshooting

Ford escape 2005 having problems with revolutions, car seems to want to stop and then accelerates itself. We changed the number 2 spark plug relay as computer indicated however problem still persist.


There is no spark plug relay

You may have had a COP Ignition Coil,changed for #2, based on a PO302 code

What codes do you have now?

Sometimes the code won't tell you which coil is bad,if it is a bad spike,it will set a lot of wrong codes.

The PO300 Misfire, first 1000 Revolutions,you forget, means nothing to you.

You may have to buy a new coil and move it from one cylinder to the next,to find the bad one.

Unfortunately you have to remove the intake manifold, to do right bank coils

Hope your not still on 5 year old spark plugs. If so, remove intake,do plugs,install 3 new coils, on back cylinders and save them, to use on future coil issues or front bank,current problems.

Clean MAF Sensor (CRC MAF Cleaner)
Clean throttle plate (CRC Throttle Body Cleaner)
Meter out TPS Sensor----check for wear/inconsistant PCM feed back

This will happen if the Torque converter goes bad or the TCM module. As well as any number of Solenoids inside the Transmission. When the Torque converter goes bad it the transmissions puts too much drag on the motor when you engage a gear. Basically it's like dumping a clutch on a standard. Have the transmission checked. Although I must say, if you have a mechanic or service shop looking at this I'm surprised it wasn't the first place they went after you explained the problem. You were most likely experiencing a loss of gas mileage as well. Were you using more fuel than normal prior to that point.

Multiple Ignition coil failure w/ On-board computer failure


This is a common problem on most Ford products since around 1998. The issues is mostly with the COP--Coil-On-Plug. Their individual coils for eack spark plug,vs. a single coil pack or distibutor and wire type system. Now the good part. With all of fords problems, ALL MFG's use this type system,Nice move.

You saw Nissan ,recall issues,back to 2004 thru 2008,once Toyota had the gas peddle issues. If it wasn't for Toyota,they were laying low. Everyone new there were problems. Same thing on Chevy Colorado,Etc

yeah, those escape's are tricky to fix with the seperate front transmisisons - ver expensive. ditch the car and buy something decent instead...
