Done several of these....not the easiest of jobs due to limited left to a professional. Always best practise to renew the water pump whilst you are in there too, as it would be almost the same amount of work agian to replace at a later date.

I just resently replaced a brken timing belt on my 96 neon

Neons used a DOHC interference type engine. I hate to tell you this, but the valves are bent, and your entire valve train (possibly your cylinder head) needs to be repaired or replaced all together.

We took apart the car but need to put the timing belt back in

Get the right timing belt part and tensioner asembly,
It will come withthe instruction manual in the box from NAPA ,,, autozone, etc.
The belt will have white marks that corespond to marks on puleys,
Remove no 1 plug , insert ruber hose turn engine to top point TDC.
Folow instructions on suplied sheet.

The tensioner is a little pulley. You would see the smooth side of the belt running on it.This puley carries a bolt to fit a socket. If you have enough room to fit a wrench or socket you press hard on it you will see it flexes. If there is not enough room you go to auto store and buy the tool for belt release. This is not expensive. It is basically a long flat bar with sockets to fit on the end.One of those sockets will fit.e-mail me at KPHULESAR@COMCAST.NET

I am having an oil issue with my car its a 96 Dodge stratus 2.0 ES, 5 speed I took it in for an oil change no oil registered on the dipstick , they changed the oil and we noticed it pouring out apperas to...

These are famous for cam shaft seals! located behind the cam shaft gear on the timing belt assembly! I changed mine 2 years ago and yesterday popped out again these do this in cold start ups ! looks like oil is dripping quickly beside oil filter! the timing belt cover is where that seal is oil runs down and runs out on ground beside oil filter! the only problem with these are you might as well change the belt and water pump because these are due @ a hundred thousand KM's, the seal is wort $7.00 it is a shame when all you do is change that and 1 month later your timing belt goes then you have to pull all the same stuff apart again! so why not change it while you have it apart the first time it will save a lot on re-entry labour fees!believe me this is my second time around on this issue and labour is around 5-7 hours for this job! good luck let me know how you made out and merry christmas.

The timing belt on my 2003 Chrysler Sebring LX (93,000 miles) blew out yesterday. The shop I took it to is quoting the price to fix it between $1,200 - $1,800, depending on if any of the valves were also...

Ok here is the best way to handle this, replace the timing belt and the water pump if it is driven by the timing belt, also check that that all the idler puley's are ok and the tensioner pulley, start the engine, if it just spins free you have damaged the valves, then it gets kind of expensive since the cylinder head(s) ,must be taken off, do one thing at a time. What engine do you have, that does make quite a difference.
