Question about 1997 Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

My Dash board lights will not stay on. I mean every thing is totally dark. This dash is 100% digital so I can't see nothing. If I bang on the fuse box I can get it to flicker on but it will not stay on.

I have a 92 nissan dash lights at all.located 1 fuse block under dash and 2 under hood.none labeled inst or dash.cant find a blown

first check all fuses with a tester,if they all are good, next check the switch & connector for corrosion & possible broken wire,if those are good the bulbs might have burnt out,if you only had a few were working the rest might have reached the limit & now your totally dark, usually when the switch goes it goes all together no nothing so I think the other things I have mentioned will bring back your dash lights as long as there was no electrical work done,if there was theres a blown fuse that will continue to blow until the circuit is corrected

It6's hard to say when you have not even mentioned what kind of car you are talking about.

With that said, many vehicles use a sunlight sensor mounted either in the rear view mirror or on the top of the dash panel. I have seen similar symptoms due to things hanging on the mirror (beads, chains, sun catcher, etc.) or thrown up on the dash (papers, business cards, parking receipts, etc.) that interfere with the operation of the sensor.

Anyway, the FIRST thing to check is to find out where your sensor is located and make sure there is nothing blocking it.

Where do i start looking for a solution for the following problem o my 2000 dodge grand caravan se?

If you google ( resolder or solder dodge Caravan dash cluster ) you find pictures etc that will make it easier for you. It's actually a pretty common problem around that year. The solder in the cluster where your harness and wiring connector attach (at back) gets cracked and what your describing starts to happen. It's a matter of removing the dash cluster, remove cluster/circuit board from housing, flip it over and just re-heat/re-puddle the spots where the solder is on back of circuit board where that connector attached. If you want more info, feel free to get back to me, but I expect you'll find a good picture if you google it. Good Luck, let me know how it goes.

Short in my dashboard and odemeter does not work unless you tap the dashbboard with my hand. Dash lights will stay on after starting truck. have to tap dash to make the lights go out.

You've got the problem right on the nose but trouble shooting electrical problems sight unseen is just stabbing in the dark. The only thing I can suggest is since your dash work from one large circuit board check the connections to the board and check the board for cracks.
