Taking out a dashboard seems simple ... it's putting it back that is the really hard part. I recommend that you find a Haynes manual for your vehicle before you start -- this book will give you the locations of each screw holding the dash in place. This will help you take it apart without damaging the dashboard ... and it will also give you guidance on how to put it back together when you are done with your repairs.

My electronic dash doesnt work. I changed the brake booster and was under the dash, so I think I knocked something loose. where is the wire that controls the dash?

There is not just 1 wire controlling the dash! You need to look for a wiring loom and about 3 plugs going to the dash, you will have to put your hand up behind the dash to get to it or remove the dash completely!

Digital dash in my 1995 lincoln town car went off when alternater was replaced

I would first check the fuse for the dash, since that should be simple and a cheap fix. If not, the light in the dash may need replacement. The final and most difficult possibility would be a fault in the wiring between the dash lights and the power source.

My dash lights and instrument panel wont turn on.

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. You need to check your dash cluster fuse. It controls all the lights on the dash. If the fuse is good, you could have some loose wires or bad wires. None the less, you will need to check them with a voltage meter. In this case, it would be a rough job because the dash may have to come out. You would need to check the dash wiring harness. You can visually inspect it to see if you can see burnt wires or damaged wires. Hopefully, it is just the fuse.

Replace it, as there is no adjustment. Get o good used one , use a sunshade and never use armor all on it. That will cause them to shrink up. Put a meat or cooking themometer on the dash and leave car in the sun. The temperature will surprise you.

Top of dash need replacing

There is a company called coverlay that sells a fitted cover for your dash. You can go to there website and search your vehicle to find the right one and the right color.
Here is the info from there website:

98-01 Dodge Ram Pickup Dash Cover 22-802L

98-01 Ram 1500 (with airbag)
98-02 Ram 2500, 3500

This dash cover is custom formed to the exact shape of your orginal dash. It is installed over top of the orginal dash, and is held in place with silicone adhesive (provided). The installtion can usually be completed in 30 minutes or less. No special tools are required. No original parts need be removed. Dash covers can be purchased in several standard colors.

Need to have the dash repaired for my 63 avanti. I live in Hawaii

Dash repair. Do let me know how serious it is. Some of it can be repaired, depending if the vinyl has some elasticity remaining or a replacement dash pad may be needed, or simply replace the entire dash. There are options.
