Check your thermostat make sure it is operable when the engine heats up if after a few minutes, of your engine running and your hoses is still cold, you need a new thermostat most likely......

My heat and defrost isn't working on my chrysler 300m what do I need to do to fix it


There is a valve that is vacuum opperated that allows hot coolant to flow into the heater core inside the car. The valve is mounted inline w water hoses leading to heater core. Has a vacuum line running to it. Make sure it works. Turn heater on. Remove vacuum line see if valve accuates. Movement it works. No movment either valve is bad or no vacuum at valve. Check and make sure there are actually coolant lines leading to heater core. Somtimes when a heater core goes bad and starts leaking (you will smell coolant odor in vehicle) a quick fix is to remove the lines and link them back to each other under the hood. No heat no defrost. Make sure this isn't the case w your car.

My 1999 dodge caravan is still overheating. I have already replaced the thermostat and the water pump, also there is no heat. please help me someone!

Well you can either have a problem with either radiator outer {dust/dirt in outer core of radiator or clogged up inside were water goes, or soft hoses,blowen head gasket plus a few others ,but first go to garage to were you blow up your tyres and use the air hose and blow out the radiator core where the air goes in, 2 drain out radiator water and then refill with water at 1 ltr at a time and then check your info car book and find how much water the radiator takes ,if it dosent take all the ltrs then the radiator is blocked inside.
if engine runs rough missing etc then get your Head gasket checked out.
When you say no heat is that with heat on gauge or no heat from heater, as it could be heater blockage same as radiator core. So let me know how you get on.

When I put the heat on in my car it blows warm air for a few seconds then goes to blowing out cold air.


The lack of heat in the car has little to do with the car's cooling system, other than the hot coolant is the heat source. 95% of all "no-heat" issues are related to heater controls and/or the heater core itself. Since you get some heat, and then it goes away, this indicates a probable vacuum leak in the heater controls. When you select heat, vacuum is directed to a vacuum motor. This motor operates a vacuum actuator that moves a linkage that moves a door inside the heater box to direct the interior air through the heater core. If this actuator has a leak, it will activate, then as the vacuum leaks off, deactivate. You probably need to have a part replaced in the heater actuator mechanism.

Some early cars have what is referred to as a hot water valve under the hood . It is hooked in one of the heater hoses , the supply side . The other hose is the return side , once the hot coolant goes through the heater core it goes back to the engine to get heated up again. This hot water valve is operated by engine vacuum. If you look at the fire wall or bulkhead , you should see two hoses going into the inside of the vehicle. those are the heater hoses. look for the valve on one of them. If you vehicle doesn't have one of this valves , you possibly have a mode or blend door problem . Does you car have Electronic Automatic Temperature Control or manual A/C-heater system ? The heater blower does work , all speeds ?

How do I troubleshoot why my heat is not working its blowing with no HEAT


The first thing I woujld check is the water level in the radiator. Most vehicles are designed such that if the water goes low the heater does not get enough water to heat the vehicle. If that is ok it may be the heater core or baffels.

Assuming the fan blows OK but you have no heat. Go to the firewall and notice where the heater hoses enter and exit the cabin. You'll notice a metal manifold and also a rubber bypass hose that connects the two. This bypass hose is a design problem and causes the coolant to bypass the heater core which is located inside the cabin under the dash. Over time, the heater core gets blocked by gunk and you'll get no heat. All the coolant flows through the bypass hose when this happens. The fix is to flush the heater core itself. It's difficult to access at the firewall, so I disconnect the two hoses at the engine itself and attach a garden hose to flush it. Before doing this you must clamp (vice grips) the bypass hose so that all of the water goes through the heater core.

The heater in my 2008 pontiac G6 doesn't work how do i fix it


Is the fan blowing for the vents? If not the problem is a fan issue which is much more likely. The hot water usually goes through the heater core all the time and the only reason you get heat when called for is that air is directed across the fins and coils where your engine coolant is going through. Of course the heat does not come on until the engine has heat built up in it say after about 7 minutes of run time depending on ambient temperature.

Heat goes on and turns to cold air 96 crown victoria. fixed waterpump, changed termostat, heatercore blown out twice, fluids are good. car sometimes acts like it has stored up heat, hot air will blow out...


did you buy the heater cores new heater core and radiator is two different things sounds like you thermostat is bad touch your bottom hose and your top are they both hot if ones hot and ones cold water is not circulating bad thermostat is the heater core put in right

It actually sounds to me like you're low on coolant. My Jeep leaks coolant and whenever it gets low the temp gauge will go real high and then drop, and the heater doesn't work well. This is because the cooling system of your car is supposed to be a closed system, full of coolant and no air. When coolant leaks out, the space it used to occupy is now occupied by air, which does not transfer heat well. When 'air' is passing through your cooling system, no heat can be transferred from your engine to the heater and radiator, resulting in a hot engine and no heat at the heater. Then when a pocket of water passes through the system, the temperature gauge quickly falls as the water absorbs the heat from the engine. The hot water that cools the engine is where the heater gets it's heat from as well, so when water passes through the heater core, the heater works, but when it's filled with air, it doesn't.

Hot water runs through the heater core regardless of whether or not your thermostat is open or closed. That's why your heater works in the winter even before the engine is at normal operating temperature. The fact that the heater stops working is a good sign that the thermostat is probably not the culprit.

As for the water pump. If the water pump was bad, your temp gauge would go into the red and stay there. Water pumps generally don't work intermittently. Either it's good and ot works, or it's bad and it doesn't.

However, if you are in fact low on water, as I suspect, it means you probably have a leak somewhere. The leak could be in the water pump housing gasket, so depending on where you take it for repairs, they may try to sell you a new water pump anyhow. So just beware of that.

1997 sl2 inside heater barely heats


What temp thermostat did U put in????? Check and see what thw manufacture call for you car. Also check to see if any leaves are in your heater box, which is stopping the air flow. Some cars have and air filter on the inlet duct. It could be plugged. Check this out also.
Take the 2-heater hose off where the water goes into the heater coil. Back flush it with your home water hose, the oopposive direction that it normal goes. It can get stop-up. You can also flush your whole system by empting the radiator and put a can of old time comet into the radiator, and fill it also with water, let it run for 1-hour, the empty a,d fill with water 2 more times. Fill it back with antifreeze and go with it. This should clean everthing.
