Why does the Battery not stay charged?

Likely there are several other possible problems. First, batteries generally have a 5-year life although that's only average under GREAT conditions and service. Second, connections on top of the battery may need to be cleaned. Third, many times the alternator is unable to charge the battery if it is not functioning properly. Have the output of your alternator checked to make sure it is providing between 13.8V and 14.4V. If not, it may not be capable of charging your battery. And last, your electrical system may have a drain on it (a trunk light or glove box light stays on).

Battery is being drained by something electrical

The clicking noise is a depleted battery (if the solenoid is integrated into the starter) I had a similar challenge with my 20 year old Honda, the battery terminals had expanded over time due to overtightening and no longer connected fully if you can find battery terminal sleeves check link below http://www.eurocarparts.com/ecp/p/car-batteries/battery/other-batteries/other-car-batteries/?412775000&0&cc5_1026 these are ideal if not I used heavy duty tin foil that I folded to the correct shape and thickness. I am also assuming the battery is fully functional and in good working order.

Battery totally drained

Can it crank with a jump start? Check for good contact on the terminals. Also, some new batteries are not fully charged. If you did not drive the car much with the new parts, it may not have ever gotten fully charged. If you can wiggle the battery terminals, they are too loose. Lastly, the alternator contacts should be checked and the output of the alternator should be checked with a proper meter.

Battery drains in about a day while car is not on, not battry, not alternator, mechanic says both are good. traced drain to fuse panel junction fuse but not sure how that helps

disconnect one fuse every night with a fully charge battery until you have a fully charged battery the next morning or take it to a repair shop

Battery is dead everyday

You either have a bad battery or a bad alternator. Most alternator shops and Advance auto parts store will check both for free. It is possible for an alternator to charge the battery while the car is running but kill it when it is switched off because of a bad diode in the alternator.

Battery has been load tested and is okay. With a fully charged battery the engine will neither crank nor start. With the key off there is an electrical drain on the battery which fully discharges battery...

Hi,

This seems to be an electrical Problem. Though it is Hard to Diagnose as all the wiring needs to be checked. As this is not a Common problem in RAM, i would advise you to Check all the wiring Connections. If you have Security Feature, you could try to De-activate that to check, if that would help this situation. For the time being, if you are not using the Car, you could pull out the Battery Cable to make sure, that the Battery is not Drained.

If you see Check Engine Light being ON, along with some driveability issues, you could take the Car to Autozone and Get the Codes Scanned that would tell you what exactly went wrong with this.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Headlights causing battery drain while driving?

Hi:
Though your car seems fine without using the headlights, you have a charging problem, and need to get a couple things checked out. First make sure your battery connections are clean and tight. Your alternator belt should also be checked to make sure it is serviceable and properly tightened too. Your alternator should be checked under load, and lastly, your battery too. Most auto parts stores, such as auto zone, will check your parts for free,so you should only be spending money on what is broken!

Need to recharge the battery, fully, start the car,and check the charging voltage at the battery with a voltmeter, to verify that the alternator is charging the battery properly. If the alternator isn't working (charging) then the battery will go dead again.Charging voltage at the battery with the engine running should be minimum 13.5 volts up to about 14.5 volts.Battery voltage with the engine off should be minimum 12.5 volts.
