I came across a similar problem with a 66 mustang, the starter was the wrong one
for the vehicle, (It looked similar but wasn't the right one). Also some starters require installation of starter shims for proper clearance between the flywheel and starter
otherwise the gears remain engaged after starting. You may need to purchase
starter shims at the parts store after checking to be sure it's the correct
starter. Hope this helps.

I replaced my starter on my 94 ford ranger. my truck won't start, when it cranks, it makes a loud grinding noise. How can I fix this problem?

When buying starter motors it is essential that the starter pinion teeth are of the same pitch as the flywheel ring gear. Not all starters from the same make fit different engines because of this problem. However I would be checking that I had put the starter in the housing properly as any misalignment will cause your problem

1997 Ford Ranger 2.3L Hard Start

I love my Rangers, and it sounds like you need a new starter drive, better know as the bendix. It is cheaper to buy a new starter. As far as the door locks, I would get the starter fixed first and the door lock problem may go away. sounds like the starter is dragging the power down and could cause a number of strange thing to happen. Hope I have help you solve your problem. I think It will.

94 Ford Ranger won't start. Replaced starter and solenoid and battery checks okay. Suspect a ground problem. Where do I begin?

To start, why did you replace the starter? Was it bad? Did you have it checked? Is the new one good? And what is the battery reading in Volts? Does it click at all, crank at all? Did you check the fusible link? Follow the hot wire from the battery to the link, a giant fuse type thing, check it out. Is the ground wire from the battery bolted to the frame or body, and engine? Is the starter connected right? Are the terminals on the battery posts squeaky clean? they have to be or it won't do anything. Check the electrolyte fluid and see what the gravity of each cell is. The battery with one weak cell is a dead duck. The voltage should be at 13.5 at all times. The posts have got to be clean and tight, the starter should at least click. Do you have an anti-theft device somewhere in there you forgot about? Check it out. Hope this helps.

I have to use a hammer to hit the starter of my 1994 Ford Ranger to get it to start. How long can I keep this up or is there another way to do this until I can afford to replace it?

well the hammer could work for a month or a minute. on a bright note normally when a starter is going out on a ranger you can save yourself a lot of money by fixing your starter rather than buying new. the common problem with them is that the brushes inside the starter wear out. these brushes are easily replaceable. once the starter is out look at the backside of the starter and you will see 2 small bolt heads. these bolts come off to expose the inside of the starter and the first thing you will see inside is the brush assembly. the brushes can be removed (the wire coming out of the starter is part of this assem). i'm not sure if they are so;d at autozone, etc. but most areas have an auto electric shop that can get the brush set for you for a fraction of the price of a starter. hope this is of assistants!

My 1994 ford ranger ... the starter cranks.. but if the check engine light does not come on... it doesnt start... when the light comes on.. it starts... Intermittent... what do I check ??

Had the same problem and it's so simple a fix. It's the Fuel Relay Fuse located in the fusebox in the engine compartment on the driver side. Take It costs like $13 and is the same as the AC relay. Next time it happens pop the AC fuse in it's place.

Wiring Diagram for 1999 Ford Ranger 3.0

if u can gain access to the ignition switch wiring use a testlight and probe each wire while turning the ignition at start of these wires shld have power during starting position and release it again to confirm.this wire goes directly to the trasmission multi lever position swicht (mlp).this MLP is mounted just outside the transmission shifting lever ganged together.Trace the corresponding return wire using the testlight. You may need someone to help you do the job.The return wire usually go to a relay on your fuse box on the engine compartment. Then from relay to the starter.

1994 ford ranger starter

I believe there is two solenoids on this vehicle. one on the starter and one on the right side fender area under the hood. Make sure this other solenoid is not bad.
