So long as the transmission is the correct size and shape it should work. Changing an automatic transmission to a manual transmission is more difficult ... but it Does work (as long as they match the car). I would not recommend trying to make the swap yourself unless you have all the tools and space you would need ... and a bunch of experience in swapping transmissions, since you will have to change a lot.
Changing from an automatic to a manual transmission will require the mechanic to install a clutch pedal in your car, which sometimes takes a lot of work. In addition to that, they will have to swap out the transmission itself (which take a lot of work, too), and they will have to swap out other parts like the computer, transmission fluid control systems, and possibly much more. If you really love your VUE it could be worth the effort ... but it will be an expensive job, and probably take a significant amount of time to complete. If your issue is the transmission that is in the car already, you might save money and time just swapping it out with another automatic transmission ... but if you have the time, the money, and the desire to give your car a manual transmission, then it is up to you. Either way, have fun!

Automatic transmission no reverse

Very common problem with the Toyota transmissions. The next symptom you should experience would be when you put it in neutral the car will be in drive. Unfortunately you have an internal transmission problem and will need major transmission work done. It is nothing you have done it is just a poor design on Toyotas part.

My 95 toyota 4runner is an automatic. the transmission is shifting hard even though fluid is on full. It also froze up when i put it in drive. I put it in reverse and then drive and it worked fine. whats...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. Have you changed the transmission filter recently? If not, you may need to. When you say it froze up in drive, are you referring to the vehicle was in drive and not catching?

How much 90 wt. oil does the transmission take? nothing on the dip stick.

First off, if it's an automatic transmission you DON'T put 90 wt oil in it! It uses automatic transmission fluid. Depending how low it's down it could take anywhere from 3 - 6 qts of automatic trans fluid. Have a shop look at it for you.

I have a 95 ford explorer limited edition. I blew a head gasket and just put in a rebuilt engine. Now my automatic transmission is not working. I can put it in all gears but it does nothing just stays in...

Two things come to mind. Double check to make sure the shifter linkage is hooked up properly and double check to make sure the torque converter bolts were put back in. Hope this helps.

Nissan pulsar 1988 wont go into gear I can put the gear stick in the right gear but does nothing wont reverse or drive, its automatic and has a reconditioned engine in it

try checking your transmission oil (i had the same problem but after $30 it was fixed) it might had drained out. if your transmission oil is fine then consult a mechanic preferebly an automatic transmission specialist. may be your transmission needs a rebuild.

Transmission when cold does not shift until 2800 rpm

Synthetic fluid is NOT recommended for your transmission. The best advice I can give you is to go and have the transmission completely flushed, and put the correct fluid, from Toyota, into the transmission. If you keep driving it with the synthetic fluid, you are going to damage the transmission beyond repair.
Also, get your money back from Sears.

I hope this helps you out. A FixYa rating for my assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance.
