My 2003 hyundai elantra's check engine light is on.

most of the time a engine light will set with an Evap leak code if the gass cap is not tight or left off. tighten cap, or replace cap if gasket is cracked or worn.

Ck engine is on Dealer found code P0455

DTC P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)

This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.

Causes: A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
* A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
* A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
* Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system

Possible Solutions: With a p0455, the most common repair is to:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary

Test it and send us news.

No check engin light on dash but 2 hidin codes 1cat and 1 evap ?that woun't reset ?for it to pas state inspection in ny state i need to some how get one of these to reset ? no visible codes ?

Try a new gas cap and drive around for a few minutes, then back to the parts store where you got the gas cap and have them scan the computer and see if they can clear the evap code.

Three evap lights keep failing therefore I cannot get it inspected,,,What can be the problem?

Most likely it is a cracked or broken vacuum line in the evap system, or the evap solenoid is not working, once in a while it is the evap canister itself, but not very often. Also make sure the fuel cap is good and closed tightly and is the proper one for your vehicle. (a fuel cap that does not seal will cause an evap leak)

Check the vacuum lines and inspect them carefully.

This is a closed system and any vacuum leak that causes the evap system to loose vacuum, or not to hold a specified vacuum for a specified amount of time, will register as a data trouble code (DTC) and the malfunction indicator light (M.I.L.) (check engine light, or service engine soon light) will be turned on.

I recently could not get my car inspected in NY because of a Check Engine Light. I found that is was my O2 sensor. so I replaced all 4 of them. Now the light is back on and I had it checked says sensor 1...

The wiring to the sensor or the connection plug is burnt as the wiring gets close to the exhaust manifold and down pipe. Sensor 1 Bank 2 should be the right rear sensor or the back side of the engine after the cat. Check your wiring at the sensor plug and retrace back up to the the main harness to find a burnt spot or a break in the wire at a tie off to the frame. Next the vacuum leak may be a bad gas cap. Check to be sure it is on right, ck for any hoses that may have be loosened during the replacement of the Ox sensors.

Having the same problem the other guy described.

First of all, these codes are what are called "Powertrain Trouble Codes' (that's what the "P" means P=Powertrain). TCM Request (Transmission Control Module = TCM). The request was to turn on the 'Check Engine" light.
P0720 - output speed sensor circuit malfunction
P0715 - Input speed sensor (turbin speed) circuit malfunction
P0442 - Evaporative Emission System Leak (Small Leak)
P0455 - Evaporative Emission System Leak (Large Leak)
Check fuel filler cap problems - for Evap Emiss leaks
Replace the pulse generators & have the trans fluid replaced/flushed.
The Main Catalyst System Efficiency Bank 1 Is P0420, not P0442
If you had P0420 code, the catalytic converter is shot... and that's an expensive component.

More than likely the ABS Module is faulty and as long as the check engine light is on it will not pass inspection
