1. Turn the steering wheel from side to side until it locks into place. This will make the process a bit easier, as the wheel won't be turning as you work.

  • 2 Remove the horn button in the center of the steering wheel by pulling it off towards you. This will expose the steering wheel nut at the center.

  • 3 Unbolt the center bolt from the steering wheel, using the 1/2-inch ratchet, extension and socket. This might free the steering wheel right away, but most likely you'll have to proceed to the next step.

  • 4 Position the steering wheel puller on the steering wheel such that the center bolt on the puller is on the center shaft of the wheel. Then thread in the bolts supplied with the puller into the two threaded holes on either side of the center shaft on the wheel.

  • 5 Tighten down the center bolt on the steering wheel puller using the 1/2-inch ratchet and socket until the steering wheel pops free. Then remove the steering wheel puller from the steering wheel.

You need a steering wheeel puller, there might be a couple holes behind the horn cap and you can buy some bolts to fit that will push it off.

What is causing a howl from the rearend of my 86 c10-all new components

the pinion gear is not in correct mesh with the crown wheel. It is not just a case of throwing parts in and putting it together but the correct mesh and preload of the crown wheel and pinion and the bearings has to be obtained . There are plenty of chevy workshop manuals that tell you how to get it right as the diff set up is constant across the range.

How do I replace a power steering gear box in 1971 chevy c10

In general terms, its fairly easy.
You need to disconnect the pitman arm, the steering coupler to the column, the ps hoses, and unbolt it from the frame.
The tricky part is getting the steering wheel and pitman arm aligned so the steering wheel is centered when you put it back together.
Some are notched so you have to put it back one way, some are not.

Have only 80 per cent on my right rear drum.and have 100%on all the other ones it is a 1972 chevy c10 pu

Either this brake has been dragging, or if it's like my 79 c10, It is the only brake working! First, find a good drum new or used to replace the bad one. Next replace all four wheel cylinders, the brake fluid and any pads or parts that are rusted or wore. Make sure the brakes are bled and then be careful not to hit the steering wheel when you stomp the brakes!!!

take the cover off the wheel remove the center nut and you will have to get a steering wheel puller and crank that down on the center screw until the wheel comes off and then once you have the switch in just get the steering wheel in place and have it where you can catch a few threads and tighten it back down
