Question about 2002 Kia Rio

1 Answer

My AC and fan of my 2002 Kia Rio Sedan completely stopped working. Does this mean the blower motor is bad or is it a fuse? What is the best tips and installation for this type of problem. I have a mechanic telling me with parts and labor it will be over $300...I'd rather try to fix it myself.

It is likely a failing blower motor this condition happens when dust and debris enter the motor and get lodged against the brushes. Although it is always best to verify all electrical connections are secure and clean first. Then pull the blower motor and see if theres any binding sticking etc when trying to rotate the motor by hand. If it doesnt turn smoothly or when jumped to 12v replace it

Chk for power at the blower motor electrical connector. If no voltage, check the blower motor resistor, its within the blower motor vent (this controls power to the blower motor). Also, in theses vehicles water may have damaged the blower motor itself. Inspect the blower motor for proper function.

A/C stopped working, only works slightly while car is in motion.

if you don't feel any cold air on recirc, then its not cooling. look at the a/c compressor under the hood and see if the clutch assy is engaging on it with the engine running and the a/c selector on. you either have no gas in the system or the a/c comp is bad.

Air stopped blowing on ac/heater

Check your fuses. If you have a test light, unplug the blower motor, start the car, turn the fan on, if you have power to the blower plug, the blower motor is bad. If no power, if it's not a fuse, check the blower motor resistor. Should be mounted right next to the blower motor. It is inserted into the evaporator box
