I have a problem starting my thane when it is really cold or really hot. I usually have to jump start it and at times I have checked to battery and found it low and had to charge it.

98 izzu hombre 4.3 battery went dead after a jump it wont start how to fix

The jump start may have blown you alternator or voltage regulator. If so, you have an inactive charging system. You must have a good battery for this to work, Disconnect the positive cable to the battery. Use a battery charger to slow charge your battery. When the battery is fully charged, reattach the positive cable and try to start your engine. If it starts take the truck to a shop or auto zone to have the charging system checked. Fix what is needed.
Any time a vehicle is jump started, do so with the hot battery car not running and its ignition off. If it is running and your car starts one or both charging systems are usually damaged. There may not be damage if it is GM to GM or Ford to Ford, etc., but to be safe, do not let both cars run at the same time when connected.

Clicking noise, battery light on, lights come on but dim out, how do i check the alternator ?

If you or a friend have a cheap volt meter.. set the dial to DC volts 20.. Place the red on positive side of battery and black on negative.. With the vehicle running you should have 13.5 or higher voltage...

If you do not have a voltmeter available, your local Autozone, Advance Auto.. etc.. will test it free of charge.. Good Luck

Will not start, but will turn over

If you are able to get a jump start, that would really narrow the field for troubleshooting.
If it doesn't jump start you are likely looking at an electrical issue, ( coil pack, distributor, etc. ),
if it will jump start it could be one of the following.

1. Bad connection on battery terminals, ( remove and clean, even if they don't look bad )
2. Not enough , " Cold cranking amps ", battery rating. ( this usually isn't a problem til it's cold out.)
3. MAF, " mass air flow " sensor. This can cause an engine not to start.

I hope this helps you

YOU REPLACED BATTERY.BUT CHECK TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE RIGHT COLD CRANKING AMPS.AND CHECK BATTERY CABLES.MAKE SURE THEY ARE CLEAN AND TIGHT.IF BATTERY CABLES OVER 10 YEARS OLD REPLACE THEM.MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING RIGHT VISCOSITY MOTOR OIL.YOU SHOULD BE USING 5W - 30 ENGINE OIL IN COLDER CLIMATES.IF YOUR OIL TOO THICK IT WILL CAUSE ENGINE DRAG WHEN CRANKING IN COLD WEATHER.

Jump start won't work on my 2004 Touareg V6

It all depends on several variables.
  • Were the connections clean? (battery cables and posts
  • Did you have a good connection with the jumper cables? (some battery posts are hard to get at and clamping a jumper cable can be difficult)
  • How long were the jumper cables left on? (weaker batteries will require leaving the jumpers on for a longer period of time (15-30 minutes)
  • Was the other car running? (jumping battery to battery will have the same effect as jumping alternator to battery)
  • Was the car with the dead battery warm or cold? (if the car you're trying to start was hot, it may not be the battery that's at fault
If the car you're trying to start is cold, ensure your battery connections are clean (manually cleaning is better but there are some very good sprays that work pretty well.  Leave the jumpers on for a longer period of time with the other car running.
I hope this solves your problem.  Best of luck.

Subaru Legacy 98' Outback Legacy won't start when hot

I have the same car - same problem. Too hot or too cold and then just another once and while for good measure :(
I've had the battery checked and is good. Is it likely to be the starter?
