Hi, which clip are you hooking to? The large battery terminal on the solenoid or the smaller start terminal?
Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6222268-engine_doesnt_crank_turn_over . These are genericinstructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

Hi, I was doing more research and I see there is a red light that comes on when the anti-theft device is activated. If you see that red light, the problem may be with your transponder in your key.
I'm still not sure about the start wire, because the data you have gathered is conflicted. If i were there, I would run some more tests, but I feel I have already tested you to the limit.
You say the wire has to be removed to get the starter to turn with a jumper, but is that because you have to remove the wire to get the jumper in? Have you tried to add the jumper without disconnecting the regular wire? By the way, that wire is black with a red stripe, right?

Won't start

so stop guessing, buy an $10 voltmeter (walfart has one)
and do simple tests. all very easy, ask.
the first step is jumper cable starts, ! cranks/ pass/fail??????
my guess, this fails.
if my car dont jump start, (i can coast start my car)
i check battery voltgage, alhhhhhh 12.6vdc, good. 10v bad.
i then hot wire the starter solenoid.
dead, (or clicks) , starter bad, big cables to it bad,(x2) or engine seized. (or battery bad, blow 10v cranking is bad battery 99%
i hand turn engine by hand, it dont turn, it's seized.
it turns by hand; good.!
so lets say the hot wire test works (keys in pocket cranks but dont start now , because my keys are in my pockets for safety)

that means the KEY LINE Is dead (small wire to starter solenoid)
see here. works for all cars. (not hacked key lines, etc.)

2000 Toyota Camry did not start on first try - yellow symbol

Hard to say what it is without testing so I 'm gonna give you a list of things you or a repair shop can check out:
SYMPTOM :NO CRANK
Battery, battery cables, ignition switch, neutral safety switch, starter relay, starter.
SYMPTOM: CRANK NO START
MAKE SURE TIMING BELT DIDN'T BREAK OR SKIP A TOOTH,STARTER current draw test , coil, coil pack, ignition module( only if no spark at the plug wires) fuel pump relay, fuel pump, injector module and drives, fuel pressure regulator.

This year Camry is a good year. Very little problems except annoying EVAP system. TIMING BELT SHOULD BE DONE EVERY 60K . ALONG WITH CAM, CRANK, OIL PUMP SEALS AND WATER PUMP.
I recommend taking your car to Sears Auto Center
they are pretty good with this kind of work.

Started motor problems on Toyota Camry 2000

You need a new starter bendix, or a whole starter. Best do it soon before you tear the teeth of the flex plate. Once you do that you have to pull the transmission to change it.

How do I change the starter in a 2000 Toyota Camry LE

i'm sure it's not the starter itself that is the problem, have the stater's solenoid checked...it might be stucked. It's quite a lot of work removing the starter but you can do it if you are willing enough to learn. You just need the right idea and tools to do it. Hope this will help save you bucks!

Toyota Camry 1994 No ignition think it may be alarm

disconnect the alarm system from under the dash.battery to starter direct will turn the engine over fine but ignition system still runs through your alarm system. It's also a theft prevent system so your car will not be stolen. The alarm went bad preventing your car from starting. That means putting the ignition wiring back to factory.

2000 camry will not start

You need the check for power at the solenoid wire (small wire) on the starter while turning the key to start. If there is power during start you have a bad starter. If there is no power at start, try staring it with the shifter in neutral. If there is power then, your neutral safety switch is either bad or needs adjustment.
I'm assuming all your battery connections are tight.
