Coil is more likely your issue, if the coil has gone bad on your car then it is not sending spark to the plug and you are not getting any power out of that coil. I would recommend first changing the plug and possibly the plug wire

No shouldnt be, how many miles are you putting on your vehicle? This sounds like a coil issue through and through

Cylinder #2 misfire

Look at the fuel injector for that cylinder. It may be injecting too much fuel for that cylinder and causing your problem

well..fuel injection systems are more than the electronic part. I suspect you are dealing with compression or injector fouling issues..

My car lags to accelerate and shakes

Check for spark at each cylinder. Is it missing? Or is it a transmission problem? Is engine response fine in park?

If you have a misfire, troubleshoot with this in mind: for combustion to occur, the cylinder needs air, gas, spark, and compression. Misfires occur because one of them is missing or not correct. As in say, the fuel/air mixture could be incorrect, or the compression could be too low for that cylinder to produce power. So you check the easiest first- 1. check all cylinders for spark. 2. Then check that gas is being injected into the cylinders. 3. Then check for vacuum leaks from vacuum hoses and the intake manifold gasket and the throttle body gasket. The fuel is metered in by how much air the computer knows is going past the mass air flow sensor or the MAP sensor. If extra air gets sucked in through a leak, the mixture can be leaned out way too much. 4. If you have gas and spark, and still misfiring, you may have a mechanical problem-now you need to check compression in the cylinders.

If you have a transmission problem, it could be the torque converter clutch not releasing. Transmission problems are very vexing, worse than a curse.

Misfire & black soot on ignition coil

Blinking check engine light means major misfire on one or more cylinders. You may get spark on a test but under load it may be getting blown out ..id replace the coils and bring in your spark gap 4000th of what its set.also an extremely clogged cat can cause backfires too.also it wouldnt hurt to pull your injectors and clean them and check the injection seals and the fuel filter low fuel pressure or junky injection can cause this too.

I have a 2001 chevy cavalier z-24 2.4L twin cam.....their was a misfire reading in cylinder #3. The first shop I took it to replaced the spark plugs,,ignition cover, and ignition coil cover. It ran fine...

If you are getting a misfire from cylinder #3 your check engine light should come on and read this code: P0303 which is Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected. Below I have listed what causes this and a few solutions that may help you out.

Causes:
- Improper spark plug at cylinder #3
- Insufficient compression at cylinder #3
- Incorrect fuel pressure
- The injector circuit is open or shorted at cylinder #3
- Fuel injector #3 may be faulty

Solutions:
- Perform Injector Service
- Replace Spark Plug #3
- Replace Injector #3
- Replace Ignition Coil #3

Why does check engine light flash when you push on gas?

Check engine light usually flashes when there is a misfire, is it running smooth when you push on the gas or its fluttering a little. I would say a miss traditionally for the flashing check engine light

Why si the check engine light on on my 2006 Chevy

Tighten your fuel cap 3 times to make sure its tightned. don't push it in when you tighten it. Use Fuel injection cleaner like once a month... You may have gotten bad gas. Don't use 100 percet gas. Use gas with ethenol... you get better gas mileage. I go through 3-4 tanks a week. I use the 87 octane and I put Berrymans Fuel injection cleaner in once a week. I don't know about your hesitations though I drive a 5 speed

Everytime I run my car low on fuel then add more, whether I fill it up or not,it starts missing and the 'service engine soon' light comes. WE thought it was something to do with the firing system at first...

You've got water in your tank. There are fuel additives that remove water from the gas tank that work very well. As you run the tank low, all the water and other "junk" that collect on the bottom of the tank are now being injected into your fuel line, causing erratic idling and occasional misfires.

Car is jerking engine light is flashing and smell gas

With modern cars it is bad when the engine light just comes on and the vehicle does something very different. It should not be driven. If the car is smelling of fuel and jerking it is because it's miss-firing (i.e. one or more cylinder is not getting spark but is getting fuel). This can be anything from electrical/electronic to mechanical like a broken rotor cap (as an example). The good thing, is that the light is coming on and a mechanic can check the ECU for error codes. Alternatively, you can buy or barrow one your self and check it out on your own (I think even certain auto-part stores will check it for you as long as you get in the zone;). 1996 is a good year for that since that is when OBDII started and all vehicles started using the same port to check for issues.
