Question about Lexus LS 400

2 Answers

Hi Guru, I have a 1993 lexus LS4000. A machanic cleaned one catalytic converter in front since it was drinking gas like nobodys business and smoke big time. it was running Ok. I did not use much. As I was accelerating, it would choke for a brief second. But if you give gas steadily, then it would pick up speed. Recently, he said I could use regular gas. So I filled the tank and it was driving ok ofcource with the choke on acceleration. As the gas became quanter tank, on starting, it would not move and up on steady acceleration, it would move to 30-40 miles. I took out the battery poles to clear the memory in the computer and after that it did ok with the choke for 50=60 miles and after that it is doing the same. when I tried to clear the memory by disconnecting the battery and putting it back again, and put new supper unleaded gas thinking the gas is the problem, I still have the problem. Now even in lower gear it hesitates to move and as though no gas. If I raise then it shuts down. engine light is on. What is accelerator thermal sensor? what do I do? Thanks in advance for your help. Hello unless your car is a diesel fuel it does not have an accelerator thermal sensor....to me your concern sounds like a fuel pump or a fuel regulater....As for your catalytic convertor your not suppose to clean them period who ever charged you for that I would get your money back they have to be replaced they can not be cleaned also you have to replace your o2 sensor when you change your ....cats...sorry that they were dishonest ...but i hope i helped you out ..write back if you have any more questions..ty

Go get you some cleaner and put it into the full tank of gasoline to clean the injectors might help you out. Hope this helps because the fuel injectors with the 87 octane which has things in it would clog the injectors.

1993 LS 400. Starting out the car just is slow. It's not the tranny. Tranny shifts perfect including reverse. I smell gas. Old lady drove car the whole time. 118,000 miles

IF WHAT YOU SMELL IS RAW GAS THAT IS AN URGENT PROBLEM THAT SHOULD NOT BE PASSED OVER. IF YOU SMELL A ROTTEN EGG SMELL THEN YOU MIGHT HAVE A CATALYTIC CONVERTER PROBLEM THAT GIVES POOR ACCELERATION. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKS AND CHECK FOR ENGINE VACUUM AT IDLE. MUST BE AT LEAST 19 INCHES,. IF NOT, YOUR CONVERTER IS PLUGGED.

My 1993 Lexus ES300 it's not passing smog because

It might be a worn out catalytic converter if you have no fault codes.

My 1993 ls 400 lexus, dont get power when i press the gas. when in park, the motor runs really rough and i smell gas, And before this happen, whenever i would take gas top of to put gas in,a lot of pressure...

The two are unrelated. First the no power is the catalytic converter, it is clogged up. Second is the purge solenoid is not working. The solenoid could be bad or the wiring. Check engine light on?

Both Catalytic converters glowing red , plz adv how to get them fix????

Hot catalytic converters indicate too much fuel in the exhaust. This can be caused by poor ignition/misfiring, a problem with fuel/air ratio, ignition timing, cam to crank timing(timing belt/chain).
Catalytic converters have the capability to break down excess hydrocarbons by process of chemical reaction. The more fuel, the more heat. The problem is that they will eventually melt and plug up. So I suggest you repair soon.

Alot of white smoke when i turn the car on more when i accelerate and burnt metal or sweet acid smell 1993 lexus gs 300

If the car is sluggish, it's most likely a catalytic converter based on the information you're providing. Apart from that, white smoke is also an indicator that the head gasket is bad. To check for the head gasket, Start the car and while its running, check the engine oil. If it's frothy and/or you see water beads on the dipstick, this is a good indicator of a bad head gasket. Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.

Catalytic converte dont work

I agree it would be the catalytic converter. To be sure though since they are rather expensive it would be wise to hook it upto a diagnostic machine just to be sure.

There is one before each catalytic converter (usually up right near the exhaust manifolds), and one after each cat (or if you have a Y-pipe exhaust that brings the two sides together to one pipe and one converter, then there's one after that single converter). Why do you want to change them? Have you gotten failure codes or are you having poor gas mileage? Or have they just been in there a long time? They're usually good for about 60k miles, although of course they can fail early. Usually the symptoms are poor fuel economy, running rich (seen by black smoke out the tailpipes and some rough idling, as well as blackened spark plugs), or fault codes dealing with system-lean or system-rich descriptions. Those symptoms are indicative of bad primary O2 sensors (the ones closest to the engine). If your secondary sensor(s) are failing (the post-cat sensor or sensors) you'll trip a check-engine light warning you of poor catalytic converter efficiency.

Running rough

Could be a bad catalytic converter, check under the car and see if they turn a hot red color.
