Question about Lincoln LS

1 Answer

My 2004 Lincoln LS is missing, it sputters when I take off and the engine light continues to come back on. Had the #3,4,5 coils changed and ignition gasket valves changed, spark plugs also and it is still doing it. Took it to Firestone for Diagnostic test, they stated to change the #5 coil, ignition gasket valves upper and fuel tune-up cleanser-still doing the same thing. Also would that happen to be the reason why my a/c only blows cold when I am driving the car. When I stop, it blows hot, why is that?

Hello, You can get the scans free at Autozone, Oreillys, and Advance auto-parts stores. Make sure you have the old Codes erased from the memory or they will continue to provide false information.

First, the A/C sounds like it is low on Freon. There is not enough Freon to keep the compressor engaged at low speeds. At high speeds you are moving what little Freon you have left fast enough to do some cooling. The sputtering can be a result of the A/C compressor cutting off and on when you are accelerating. Have the A/C leak tested and refilled with Freon.

If I am reading your request accurately, you mention a problem with #5 cylinder after the coil, plug, and some type of gaskets were replaced. If the problem did not go away, perhaps the new parts in #5 cylinder are bad. Go back for the replacement of the defective parts.

Have someone trace the wires from the coils back to any connector you find. Then unplug the connector and check for corrosion. Have the fuel pressure checked at the access spout on the Injector rails. Your fuel pressure Regulator may be bad and may be starving the engine for fuel or the fuel filter may be clogged.

If this is a 4.6L V-8, have a part called a "Cam Phaser" checked at the Dealer. There is an extended Warranty with both added Years and Miles to get the engine fixed. This applies to double overhead cam engines.

Get your motor fixed first. The A/C is the easiest part to fix. I hope my solution is helpful to you.

My 2000 Lincoln LS sputters when accelerating. It does this until I get on a straightway. I usually have to take my foot off the accelerator and start over with the transmission. What could be causing...

EGR Valve--bad
Most likely, you have at least one bad, COP Ignition coil, missing.

Any time you even lightly touch the gas pedal ,you load the engine, that points to egr.
You remove the egr vacuum hoses, plug them and test drive, up a hill.
Problem goes away, change valve. Get that out of the way before working on coils.

Buy CRC MAF Cleaner-- follow instructions, spray Sensor. In ducting after air filter and before thottle body.

I have you have spark plugs that have no more than 50 to 60,000 miles on them or not more than three years use. If not,get them changed.

Make sure air filter is clean and gas filter is no more than 3 years also. It is behind left front inner fender, plastic shield.

Change your trans fluid (Mercon V ) If you go more than a couple years or 30,000 miles--Also Power Steering Fluid--(Mercon) not V
Brake fluid every year or two

My Lincoln LS 2004 has the Check engine light on and the scan shows 3 problems: P0306, P0351 and P316, do you think these problems can be solved with a mayor tune up?

There is no such thing as a major tune-up

PO306--could be COP Ignition Coil #6 misfiring

PO316--is a misfire on first 1000 revolutions.
You always get that,disregard

PO351--doesn't apply to the LS,disregard also

2004 Lincoln LS Sputtering. Changed Coils twice in 2 weeks...

Yes, Now that it has set another code it can be diagnosed. The blinking should be a steady on light. This time the code should be right.
Also you can go to Autozone or Oreillys and they will scan the car for you. They will tell you the code and parts it needs. Keep that a secret and then go back to whoever is doing the work and let them scan the car too. That way you can keep them honest and know that the right parts were replaced.
