You are fitting the wrong number of teeth on the pinion starter motor ,their is more than one type ,7/9/11 teeth well something like that and its obvious you are fitting the wrong motor ,use the chassis number to order one or someone has fitted another engine or flywheel and its different

Blazer will not start have gas battery is fine

If I understand you right, it sounds like the starter solenoid went bad and could possibly work again when the engine cooled down. The other scenario is that the ignition switch is bad (on steering column) or the neutral safety switch located on the transmission side. A real fluke would be that the starter BOLTS CAME LOOSE AND JAMMED THE STARTER, IF THIS IS THE CASE LOOSEN STARTER BOLTS, WIGGLE STARTER THEN TIGHTEN BOLTS TO SPECS. 25268178-sbjsv11dlntqjzkc4qi5qeet-5-0.gif

What would cause my car to make a noise when starting?

you said in your next question that there is a squeal on starting. IF this noise is during the starting and stops when the engine is running I would have the over run clutch in the starter pinion checked as it may be slipping. IT is in effect a series of oblong balls that when starting jam between the shaft and the pinion case causing the motor to spin and when the engine starts and over runs the starter these ball fall out of the way and so the pinion gear free wheels and doesn't spin the starter armature. IF This is what is happening then the starter will have to come out for a bench test and pinion replacement.

Won't start

Your flywheel may have some missing teeth, or the starter is faulty, not kicking out the gear that turns the flywheel. Remove the starter and look at the teeth on the flyweel. IF the flyweel looks good, then starter is faulty.

Lexus rx 300 starter issue

In the old days, a coil spring on the starter pinion gear would disengage it when starter power was removed. Nowadays, the retraction mechanism probably is inside the case with only the pinion sticking out. The pinion could be binding, preventing the retraction mechanism from woring or the mechanism could be defective. In either case, the starter should be removed and checked.

2002 Sable. Two weeks ago, it will crank but not turn over. Day or so later it started fine, ran well for a week then did the same thing. It has happened twice now, tried replacing the starter motor relay,...

Hi and welcome to FixYa!
This is commonly caused by a faulty starter solenoid. If the starter solenoid is faulty it tends to trip during operation. One good reason why it starts and sometimes don't. Have it replaced and you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

Starter

Your starter has obviously failed. The only fix is a replacement.
The solenoid on the starter sounds as if it is not engaging the starter teeth fully into the flywheel... or the teeth are damaged.
In any case, a new starter is requierd soon to prevent damage to the flyweel and additional costs!
Thanks for using fixya - a FixYa rating is appreciated!!
