My 1998 buick centry locks up the brakes when i reverse. only in reverse, and only when i touch the brakes. it will reverse fine till i hit the brakes then all wheels lock. this does not happen in dri

Are you sure it is all 4 wheels locking up? I have a 1998 Century and had the same problem, it is due to moisture getting on the rear brake shoes, this makes them "stick" to the drum cold and lock the wheels, the newer brake shoe friction material has been improved to avoid this so called "stickson" problem in moist cold weather.

What tools are needed to change the brakes

if the front are rotors there are two bolts that need to be taken off first.
remove the caliper, then remove the two caliper bracket bolts and remove the rotor
replace the rotor and reinstall the caliper bracket.
pull the caliper sliders and lube them with brake grease.
reinstall caliper sliders and install new pads and caliper
refasten caliper to bracket and your done

if your doing rear disc brakes same as front
if brakes are drum type you will need rear drum brake tools to release the springs and to refasten
the new brake shoes

1990 Buick Century custom, 3.3 V6, 4 door automatic. I have replaced the linings, wheel cylinders, both rear drums on this vehicle. When the linings are tight to the drum the brakes seem to operate...

YOUR BRAKES SHOES NEED ADJUSTING THAT WHY ITS LOOSE.SEE YOU ADJUST THE BRAKE SHOES BY TURNING THE STAR WHEEL ON THE ADJUSTER SCREW UNTIL DRUM JUST SLIPS OVER THE SHOES.WHEN TURNING THE DRUM THE SHOES SHOULD NOT RUB IF THEY DO REMOVE THE DRUM AND BACK OFF STAR WHEEL A LITTLE BIT SO THEY DONT.

Can not remove rear brake drum on a 2000 Buick Century

Yes you do, but chanses are the ajusters are froze up. The best thing to do isto get a pry bar between the backing plate and drumb and pry and hit the other side with a hammer, or maybe if you can pry it out far enought to pop the ajuster out, or cut the heads off the pins on the back side of backing plate that hold the shoes to backing plate.

2004 buick emergency brake

This car has regular shoes on the back not disc. Replace shoes and adjust cable. No parking brake is a sign of worn out shoes. Regals have rear disc on them for this year.
