The timing belt and sensor keep it in time and sync,, that shouldn't prevent it from starting, if starting is the issue you may need a starter,, depending on the mileage this is just one of those things, I have a Kia and mine went out at 120k

This is a 4cyl diesel Beetle. The timing belt broke while driving. Dealer claims no damage done, replaced belt and car was driven for a few weeks. Began to start a bit sluggish, dealer said glowplugs...

my books show it as a interference engine in which case valve damage is most likely to occur
however if that was the case , it would be having a miss from the start and would not run 2 weeks before something happened
if a valve spring breaks there could be valve piston contact but it is doubtful if that would destroy the engine but again breaking valve springs is rather rare on diesel engines
the engine would not just quit but would rattle and bang it's head off then develope a big noisy miss from a hole in the piston
so I suspect a timing belt problem from when they removed/replaced the head after the glo-plug fix or a crank/cam shaft position sensor or wires ( possible faulty connections for the cam shaft)
I would suggest finding an accredited service center for a proper diagnosis and quote for engine repairs

Car died one day taking a right hand turn. checked fuel pump, changed fuel filter changed cap and rotor, checked mass air flo sencor. backfires gas out the intake. it will idle but as soon as u give it gas...

Pull that distributor cap and watch the rotor as it is cranked. If the rotor doesn't turn the timing chain is broken and causing your problem. If it doe look at the crank position and Cam Position sensors.

That dealer is ripping you off. Ask around to find a good repair shop.
Just for the heck of it, I called an auto parts store, and the cost of the timing belt is around $36.00 and the sensor is about $100.00.
Different shops charge different labor rates. But it shouldn't cost anywhere near that dealer. Good luck.

The starter housing or bolts break whenever trying to start. I first had a problem with the starter making the whining sound that usually indicates the Bendix is bad. I took my 1996 Tahoe in to a local...

Wow it sounds like that they are not shiming the starter. On general motors products a new starter has to be shimmed, so that it lines up correctly with the flywheel. This is what is causing the flywheel/starter bolts to break and the noise you are hearing. Its not a hard process, just time consuming probably why it has not been done.
Sorry. Good luck! Dont forget to rate. Thanks, James

Turn on key. power to gauges and lights. will not crank starter. removed starter and load tested . checks out ok. reinstalled starter worked for a week same thing. removed starter same thing . reinstalled...

After I was able to diagnose that the new starter I first received was defective, I reinstalled the old starter that the store checked and claimed was good. It finally acted up while I had the car on the ramps. The old starter was starting as desired when finally on one key turn, it failed to turn over. After checking I had the power to the solenoid, I gave it a tap on the solenoid and the starter began to crank again. In shopping for replacement starters, I've found out that performance data in the box doesn't mean the starter will be functional. Many that I looked at were missing the water drain debris plugs. Some were even broken in the box, and one store tried to pass it off saying it was remanents from another starter since that company reused boxes. And in-store checks for starters are only as good as the people running it. I took the same starter in twice, and got two different results (good and horribly bad).

Engine want crank

an IC (internal combustion ) engine is dependent on the spark timing for initial start (crank).here since most of it was remanufactured , the spark timing is at fault.
TIME the spark a few degrees before TDC and see the difference .i hope this solves your problem.
