You should be able to get to it. You just need to remove the air intake and the throttle body and then it should be accessible. There are only two bolts that hold the thermostat housing. It shouldn't take much more than a couple of hours to replace.

Good Luck!

"Book time" for a 2002 Montana is 2.5 hours at skill level D to remove and replace the thermostat. You can of course replace it yourself.

  • Remove air cleaner & duct assembly
  • Drain coolant
  • Remove crossover exhaust pipe
  • Remove radiator hose
  • Remove thermostat housing bolts & clean threads
  • Remove thermostat housing and gasket
  • Remove old gasket completely.
  • Clean housing
  • Replace thermostat and install new gasket
  • Reverse disassembly instructions to reassemble.
  • Refill with 50/50 mixture of DEX-COOL or equivalent coolant and clean drinkable water.

My heater on my 2005 uk spec sportage does not seem to put out much heat at all on climate control or manual modes, what can be wrong?

Hello Stan. Change the thermostat under the hood. This is an easy and inexpensive fix and it almost always is the fix to the symptoms you are describing.

If you will be changing the thermostat yourself, here is a link to the step-step instructions http://www.ehow.com/how_7373140_replace-thermostat-2001-kia-sportage.html

check in see if the fan is turning,if not then the clutch for the fan is out. That is a simple repair. Also change out the thermostat. If the veh is older then 10 yrs then cahnge out the hoses.

If the mechanic forgot to plug something back in, take it back. Every mechanic I know would rectify a mistake like that for no additional charge, and with no waiting.
