My 1996 4 cylinder, manual trans, dodge avenger buckles/jerks while driving after 20 - 30 minutes. Engine light is on - multiple misfires. Performed cylinder pressure test, each cylinder is 160 psi....

on the side of the engine near the oil filter is the crankshaft position sensor. some time those get heat sensitive .noamaly the sensor is not to pricey. so its more cost effective to just replace it.

What could cause a 95 dodge avenger to only get spark out of two cylinders when all the plugs, wires, cap, and rotors are new

This could the the coil breaking down, or it could be a bad earth. The coil converts the 12v car battery voltage into a voltage capable of jumping across the gap of a spark plug, in excess of 12,000 volts.
This could be breaking down such that it is unable to provide the continuous voltage required. Are the two spark plugs always the same? If so, what happens if you move them to a position which doesn't spark.
Also, the spark plug will only work if there's a good ground between the plug and the engine block. Oil, dirt and possibly rust will effect the plugs ability to create a spark. Again if you move a 'good' plug to a position which doesn't spark, depending upon the outcome, will point you to the problem.

This is a fairly easy job. Do each cylinder one by one (removal and install), make sure to reinstall the coil on the same exact cylinder (DO NOT MIX UP). 1. Remove coil retaining scre 2. Pull upward on the coil to remove. 3. Remove spark plug (using a spark plug socket). 4. Properly gap new spark plug (if applicable). 5. Apply sprark plug anti-seize compound on plug threads. 6. Im looking for the spark plugs in my 2008 doge avenger and i cant find them i will like to change them my self

The Spark plugs in your Avenger is good for 100,000 miles and you should not need to replace them unless there is a problem, which would be indicated by the Mill light on the dash. If you must, you can pick up the spark plugs at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to replacing the spark plugs with common tools. Good luck. Note: It's common for the doge tech to reset the engine when doing a tune up to prevent any misfire that occur when new plugs are installed.

2008 dodge avenger spark plug location and socket size.

  • 2008+ Dodge Avenger 2.4L 4cyl.
  • Remove plastic cover on top of engine, just pull on each corner for it is friction fit.
  • Once removed you will see 4 black spark plug covers with one hex type screw holding each.
  • Remove Hex screw and place aside, pull upward to remove plug boot from plug.
  • To remove the plug, use a 5/8 socket with a 6" extension. Once plug has been turned out all the way and you cannot get the plug up and out of the hole, just press the plug boot back on the plug and pull it back up.
  • Gap and replace 4 plugs with the same or equavalent type,. Drop plug down the hole and use socket to align and tighten until just snug, then torque to manufactures specifications.
