Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I have replaced the thermostat and water pump and sensor and rad cap. it os still overheating, why?

90% of the time it is a blocked radiator.If it has not been serviced properly over the years.They block up.Jeep radiators don't have a good record.Other than that,head gaskets do play up.Turn the heater on full and also the interior blower. The loss of engine heat through the heater can also be a good indictator.Hope this helps

Connie, Were the radiator,water pump and thermostat replaced to try and fix the over heat issue or as maintenance. Engine overheating can be caused by a lot of things, Leak in cooling system, air in system, bad rad. cap, slipping belt, faulty thermostat or installed upside down, faulty water pump, plugged radiator (inside/outside), collapsing rad hose, faulty cooling fan, leaking head gasket, sludge plugging engine water passages, poorly tuned engine, etc..
Take into a good shop for diagnoses and estimate for repair. Check the attached links,instruction and guides, Good luck

Thermostat or water pump?


Sounds like a thermostat is being sticky. A water pump issue should cause the vehicle to over heat quickly while driving if it is not pumping.

I replace the oil pump and the oil sensor, and the oil light keeps beeping and the car is over heating, and the fan is not running


Check to see if your thermostat needs replacing. Sounds like a rad over heating problem.... oil pump problem would seize your engine...open rad cap on a cold engine, start her up and look down into rad, takes a few min but if it doesn't circulate after 4 min then your water pump or thermostat needs replacing

Car over heats when warm and pushes water and coolant into over flow tank already changed thermostat


well if you have already changed thermostat there is a few other things that can cause this they are listed below
1. faulty rad cap
2. coroded water pump impeller / replace pump
3. rad fan not coming on / possible faulty coolant temp sensor will cause this

Engine keeps overheating


I'd start with replacing thermostat (that's the most common fault) Other possibilities; waterpump,leaky hose, radiator cap (not holding pressure), fan belt broken. I'd inspect for belt & leaks - if good replace thermostat.

The engine in my 99 venture van wont stop overheating?i have put a new thermostat in and assured that the cooling fans are working properly??anyone???


Your water pump may be defective. The impellor may be loose. When the engine is cool, open the rad cap & start the engine. As it heats up & the thermostat opens, look in the rad and see if you have enough circulation of fluid. If not, change the water pump. Check to see if the rad fins are not loose & in good shape. If not, change the rad. Pressure test the rad cap in order to make sure it is holing the proper pressure. Hope this Helps you. Good luck!

2003 towncountry over heating.replaced rad and thermstat but still over heating what the f cuold it beit has a 3.3 ....the rad had side blown out to begin with replaced it with upper,lower hoses and...


1. With what you have replaced, the only remaining credible explanation is the Water Pump. If the Water Pump is not operating correctly, this will cause overheating. The Radiator -"side blow out"? Did the radiator cap you have on not work. Overheating should cause fluid = steam to blow out the cap and not blow out the side of the radiator.
2. One thing you can do before replacing the Water Pump is to flush your entire system. There could be a blockage in the system. These flushing kits are available at most stores (Walmart or Autoparts Stores) and you can do it yourself.
3. Was the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor (mounted near the thermostat) also changed out? If this was malfunctioning it could be giving you a false reading.
The Water Pump is the likely culprit if the Van is truely overheating.

I've intrepid car has overheating problem has thermostat, working water pump, and keeps overheating


Might be blown head gasket. Is there oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil? Either of these would tell you that.
Also the exhust can get into the coolant and make the coolant low all the time.
I had two Chrysler products that the exhaust forced coolant out and had a bad head gasket.

could be waterpump?
i was going to say rad fan,but if so heater would be hot.
lack of coolant will make heater core to blow cold,if engine heats up with full coolant,usually means poor or no circulation.
water pump?
run engine with full coolant,at operating temp.with rad cap off and look in rad cap hole and see if there is movement of water inside rad.
[rad fan will not come on if water is not circulating through rad water pump?]

my car still hot .we change the water pump,thermostat,coolant temperature sensor ,rad cap,and still hot the gauge is up and down??????
