Question about 1991 Toyota Corolla

My 1991 Holden Appollo runs like **** when its hot? any suggestions as to why this could be happening? Thanku muchly :)

    They looked rusty, sandy, oily and pretty much busted!! didnt look for "tracking marks" though!

    :( okay ill look into getting a compression test done!! :)
    alright hopefully its a little problem and not my head gasket!!! lol the cooling system seems to be ok i put coolant and water in it about a week ago and nothing leaks and i havent had to top it up since!! hmmm...... :/

From your explanation of it running *****.......i can only assume that it is misfiring.....this is when one or more cylinders are not firing properly and instead of having a 4 cylinder engine, it becomes a 3 or even 2 cylinder and runs like a bucket of bolts.

I would suggest replacing the spark plugs, and spark plugs first !!!

    Ive already put brand new sparkys in - it made it better but still has the problem when its hot... kinda like misfiring or a flat spot but just not sure what it could be :S

    How did the spark plugs look when they came out, as this can tell you alot about how they were operating....did they have black "tracking" marks along the side of them, were they black/oily/dry at the electrode ?????

    Rusty/sandy...this might indicate a bigger problem, forget the spark plug leads at this stage.......I would seriously consider getting a compression test done.......just to ensure that the vales/cylinder are sealing properly..........best case scenario, and the spark plugs were just old, and worn, worst case scenario, head gasket is gone or going and you might be up for some costs...........how is the cooling system water ????.......do you find you have to top it up, or anything like that ????

    OK...get the compression test done and if that turns out alright...then replace the spark plug leads......because if the plugs were rusty and sandy, then the leads would have been working overtime to try and fire them , so they would definetly be fatigued if not totally broken down internally !!!

It is a Chevy HHR! OK for a service (filter and pan drained) add 3 quarts DEXRON VI ATF and run until fluid is hot to the touch ands then top off to safe zone.

My 1991 holden appollo's dashboard has a check


think it could have a bad earth on one of the back light ,when you check them they appear ok but get a nice long legged female assistant to put all the lights on at once ,stop light ,reverse light ,side lights and fog and check the back as with the hazards on the lights will come on side lights then flash with indicator and whatever else it feels like ,this i think is your fault ,if this wrks then you have a tinny on me

I have a 93 holden appollo i changed water pump and timiing belt and all it does is wines doesnt kick over


Sounds you definitely have a starter problem. First, disconnect the battery and check the starter leads for tightness. Could be as simple as a loose connection to the solonoid and ground leads. If it still fails, you will have to replace it. Oh, and if you can't find a replacement part, you can always take it to an automotive electrician to rebuild the unit. Good luck.

    1991 Toyota SR5 won't start when it's hot


    I believe that click you are hearing is your starter engaging but its not cranking your engine over. Your starter must first shoot out to engage your flywheel and then it should crank it. i suggest you get your starter tested to verify.

    The Fuel Pump is Inside the Fuel Tank. You will need to Trop the Fuel tank for this. Not an Easy Job by any Means.
