2008 GMC Sierra pickup. Driving and all of a sudden it shut off then turned back on; the doors unlocked then locked again. Now it won't do anything. Checked the oil and it was empty - no oil at

Running with no oil is death for the motor ( Seized). When the alternator stopped working because the engine stopped the door lock control opened the door locks as it said you were below the required speed to have them locked

Oil light reading "stop" car rattling when you press on gas

Check the oil level before driving it. It must be low on oil. Find out where the leak is. Look underneath the car at the oil pan's drain plug-maybe the service guys forgot to tighten it, or worse, cross threaded it. If they made a mistake, take it back to them to fix it.

I have a 2001 grand am se 2.4l ,and i made the mistake of putting transmission fluid in the oil. I want to know did do severe damage to my engine? I used about half a quart..

Nope your fine. Change the oil ASAP. Like tomorrow morning. Trans fluid depending on what is is can be a 20 or 30 weight oil similar to motor oil. The problem is it has an incredible amount of detergents in it. Those detergents will start to dissolve deposits in your engine wich isn't a bad thing but if it happens to fast you could plug the oil screen and loose oil pressure. If you can't get it changed tomorrow than limited mileage would be advisable until you can get it changed. 1/2 quart shouldn't be a big deal but you never know? Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. Thank you for using!

Sound like a lifter knocking took off vaule cover all were ok not too tight not too lose just had head gasket replaced never knocked before that any other ideas top of motor is apart heads are off too

Your problem could be a lifter that's either pumping up or leaking down which wouldn't be evident when you check the rocker arms for play with the engine off. You can use oil deflector clips and a mechanic's stethescope to run the engine with the valve cover removed and isolate the lifter in question. If you had a bad head gasket and had coolant leaking into the oil, it's also possible that you're mistaking the sound of a bad rod bearing for a lifter noise. Hopefully it is just a bad lifter.

I installed a engine in my 1998 Chevy S10 Blazer, but I made the mistake of not marking the distributor when I removed it because of damage to the electrical plug. Now, I can't seem to get the timing...

TDC, make sure both valves are closed. (Rotate the engine as it turns running, TDC is after the compression stroke, Number one piston up.)
Note that the distributor gear has a twist to it, and you need to compensate that when aligning the oil pump slot.

On a 4 ring grove piston, does the 3 piece oil scraper rings go o the 3rd or 4th grove?

Oil ring assembly always goes on the bottom. You really can't make a mistake there. Oil groove is always much wider than any other ring groove. Stock pistons with 4 ring sets????

My 2006 rio started with a knocking sound while I was driving, now it makes an awful sound and won't start, it's a standard trans...any ideas on what may be wrong? Just got the oil changed.

You may want to check and make sure that they actually filled it up with oil. Just pull the dipstick and see if there is anything on the stick. People make mistakes and it can be easy to forget to fill a car if the person was working on multiple cars at the same time or if someone other than the mechanic doing the oil change was pulling the car out after the oil change.

I did an oil change on my subaru legacy 2000 and now it's starts but once it's in reverse or drive it wont

I would bet you drained the transmission oil and not the engine oil. It is a pretty common mistake.

How much oil did you add when you where done. is the oil level on the oil dipstick now reading overfilled? Is there any fluid on the transmission dipstick?

Yes, you should. While the oil life monitor is based on Hours run time, that seems like it was reset by mistake.
