Question about 2001 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

01 Sebring convertible, AC was low on refrigerant, and would stop blowing cold air and start blowing warm air. I added refrigerant, and it worked perfectly for about 20 days. Now it blows cold, then it is like the compressor cuts out. A random amount of time later (a few minutes), its blowing cold again. It will blow cold anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes, and will blow un-conditioned air for 30 seconds to 5 minutes, no pattern that I can see. Replaced main AC Relay in the box near the battery. That made no difference. Where should I look next, it seems like it is electrical, but I'm no mechanic.

First of all if your system was low on refrigerant there is a leak. You can recharge and exspect the air to work, how long it will last depends on the size of the leak.Somtimes the refrigerant can have a leak prevenative but this is for very small leaks. You need to have dye put in to system and use black light to find leak.they make kits at your local auto parts store that you can buy and do this your self.If you say it worked well for about 20 days, that is a fairly large leak. The reason why the compressor is acting so erractic is because the freon has oil in it and lubracates the bearings in compressor. When the system goes low the compressor will turn on and off to protect itself.Eventually it will stop running completly.Idont think you have an electrical problem,Ithink you have a big leak.Try what I said and good luck....Brian

After the 20 days, and when the new problem started, I got another can of refrigerant, and added it. The problem still exists even with the appropriate amount of R added. I was thinking the same thing, but I also know that for that to be the right answer, I would have to be low on refrigerant again, and I'm not. Also, to loose a portion after 10 years of use is normal, I don't think it is a leak, due to the pressure levels. But thanks!

How to get AC to blow cold all the time on my 2000 Volvo v70?

You'll need to have someone check the refrigerant charge with a manifold gauge.
If the low-pressure side is lower than it should be but the high-pressure side is normal or showing higher than it should, your orifice tube may be clogged.
Seriously, start by having the refrigerant pressures checked.

2004 sebring air conditioner stops and starts

Low freon will cause the compressor to short cycle, when the compressor runs the pressure in the low line is pulled down and the low pressure switch turns it off. Not running the pressure builds up and turns it back on. In the old days there was no low pressure switch, with no freon to carry the oil the compressor was destroyed.

When I turn on my air conditioner in my 2004 Chrysler Sebring 2.7L it blows cold air until the car has been running for 10 plus minutes and then air blows hot and the RPMs go up and down drastically.

A mechanic would check for voltage at the ac compressor and the freon charge when the ac stops working.
If the compressor is cutting on and off the idle speed will change.

Cooling fans working? If you notice the air getting warm mostly while stopped, probaby cooling fans not turning on. if the fans are working properly, may be low on freon and need a recharge.

My 2004 Sebring heater only blows warm air when the car is moving. If I stop at a traffic light or put it in park it blows cold air. Any ideas?

1st check the coolant level. If it's low, what you describe will happen. If level is ok, let me know, and include info on engine temp gauge--how long to warm up, is gauge at warm up low temp range, normal, or hot?
