Question about 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

My 2001 malibu has just hit 207000 miles. recently it began revving fast when I came to a stop after a long trip on the highway (like at a stop light). I had to turn the car off to get it to stop revving unusually fast. Now my car won't idle. I can't drive it or it will stall as soon as I take my foot off the gas.

Have 2000 malibu that idles to fast

Fast idle is often caused by a faulty TPS. Throttle Position Sensor. The computer is not able to determine exactly where the throttle is so it compensates by applying too much throttle automatically to avoid stalling the engine. Just went through this with a delivery truck at work that would run at 40 without touching the gas. Scary ride in a 2 ton truck.

Honda accord ex 2001 check engine light suddenly came on, car started to idle roughly

If it's running rough, chances are that it's misfiring. If the Check Engine light is flashing/blinking, it is definitely misfiring.
If that's the case, drive it as little as possible... Or straight to the mechanic because the more you drive it while it's misfiring, the higher the chance is of you ruining your catalytic converter.

My daughter has a 2001 Ford Focus with 79,000 miles on it. Last fall (during warm weather) she experienced power loss at times. The car would suddenly lose power at highway speed. It would idle fine if she...

Ford had a recall/ extended coverage on the fuel pumps in the focus vehicles. Do you know if this was done? If not call a ford dealer with your Vehicle identification number (located in drivers door jam or on registration) and they can let you know if it was done. The concern with the fuel pumps was that they would stop working when they got hot. The replacement pumps were free. It can't hurt to call and ask.

I have a potential 01 malibu buy and would like to know how long does motor last if for 293,000 km it was a highway commuter car and what problems i should look for. it seems great on the higway smooth but...

I would stay away from any car that has that many miles on it, that is over 150,000 miles, the engine might be fine but the steering and other components are at the end of there useful life span unless he or she has records to back up needed repairs, look for a car with less than 100,000 miles on it.

2007 kia rondo seems to use alot of gas

I have the same issue of low gas mileage. My 2008 Kia Rondo with V6 (2.7Lt) gets 20-21 mpg in average. Even for highway mileage, it is around 21-22mpg. Very poor gas mileage. Disappointed. I hope it would improve in the future.
