  • This may sound moot but have you tried putting a new radiator cap on yet. A radiator cap that's gasket is worn may not leak fluid but will not hold pressure and will make the car overheat. It's a simple thing that can cause this headache.
  • Are the radiator fans coming on when the temperature goes up so high?
  • I am concerned a mechanic is going to put in a radiator with no leaks present. A radiator only needs replaced with leaks present from the radiator. Do you have a leak from the radiator?
  • It could be a head gasket. How does the oil look? Does it look like chocolate milk? Does radiator fluid just disappear and the level drop for no apparent reason? These are the more prominent signs or a head gasket leak.
  • Is the water pump grinding at all? If the water pump is burned up, common over 100,000 miles, this will make a vehicle heat up something terrible. This water pump is located under the timing cover just like the timing belt. When the belt was replaced did they inspect the water pump for you?
  • Some things to take a look at as well as think about.

Regards, Tony

Why is my 2006 ford focus overheating after changing the thermostat?

New thermostat could be bad. But it sounds like the cooling fan is not coming on. The thermo sensor that activates the fan might be bad when the engine over heated. It is usually in the cylinder head or the thermostat housing or the engine block. Pretty sure it is in the cylinder head but it is controled by the ECM. Hope this answers your question. Make sure you do not have a air blockage after changing your thermostat.

Hello my name is Sean and I have a 2002 ford focus wagon with a 2.0 motor. The blower fan for the heat and air has stoped working. I have ordered a new blower fan and resistor but havent received yet. I...

the fan motor is maybe bad, disconnect it (the motor) and put in new fuse, if its ok, then the motor is bad. the resistor only handles speeds lower than HIGH. so replace the motor first, then try it, if all speeds work, then the resistor is OK.

My SVT FOCUS temperature gage keeps going to the red. I changed the thermostat and it's still trying to overheat. I have a Haynes book on FOCUS 2002 to 2005 however; it does not explain how to change...

The radiator fan is most likely to blame. When the temp goes above the normal level the fan should kick on.. If it does not, you need to troubleshoot the rad fan. (Under hood etectrical box, fuse / relay/ etc.)
Also there are 2 of them (fans). The 2nd one is a booster for when the AC is on, to dissapate more heat. Try turning on the AC and see if 2nd fan kicks on. This can often help prevent serious overheating.
Good luck.

My heater is not throwing hot air but it is not overheating?

Your thermostat is likely stuck open: the engine never reaches operating temperature, so cold coolant is circulating through the heater core. If not the thermostat, there is also a chance the heater core is clogged

Need to know where the fan motor and resistor is located on the 2003 Ford Focus. Car overheats while idling, driving, in park, and it'll still overheat when the heater is on. Tell me what site I can find...

Cars usually overheat when the thermostat is faulty, coolant level is low, or the water pump fails. If your cooling fan on the radiator does not kick on shortly after the engine reaches operating temperature, you may have a bad cooling fan, cooling fan relay, or cooling fan fuse. If your engine is overheating, start by checking the fluid level, and installing a new thermostat.

A blower motor resistor is the device that controls a car's cabin heating and air conditioning unit's fan speeds. This usually won't cause the engine to overheat, your A/C fan may not function or only function at one speed. Here is a Blower Motor Resistor from Autozone:

Ford 2002 focus blower motor only works on switch

You may have 2 separate problems, check the bower motor resistor first, if it's bad replace it and THEN you should have the fan blowing on the lower settings.

If the ac turns on after you fix this then problem solved, if not it may be unrelated have a pro look at the ac.

If you purchased used beware that the indicator light may have been broken to hide this problem. If the vehicle worked normal since you purchased it the indicator light is probably inop or broken.

Flush the radiator first. If it still persists, replace the thermostat. Get this fixed because you do not need a warped head.
