Question about Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

I put a motor in a 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis and it wont crank. Everything is good on the motor. I also changed the fuel pump in the car. My uncle is a mechanic and he thinks its the alarm system, but he doesn't know how to bypass it. I've searched all over the internet and can't find anything that tells me how to get rid of it. Its a factory alarm system. Do you know how to bypass it?????

If you had a working key before you changed motors there should be no reason for the security system to change. You use the same brain and components and just swap the motor.

You may need to reset the inertia switch after changing the fuel pump, but without cranking the engine that's another issue.

There are some videos similar to YouTube about grounding a few wires at the bottom of the driver's kickpanel. You just need to choose the right words to get the search result you need. There are some mechanics who post their own videos on a variety of topics. I would imagine there have been legal challenges for distributing this information especially from Insurance companies.

You need to have reliable information because the brain is expensive to replace if you short it out.

Remember that there is a switch on the brake pedal which locks out the gearshift and the starter signal. Before the engine is allowed to crank it is necessary to put your foot on the brake pedal. Those switches connect the starter signal.

SOURCE: door ajar alarm won't quit

If you take a pair of Channel Lock pliers and slightly unscrew the post that the latch catches and move it laterally inward about a quarte inch(you can tell by the original placement mark) this should solve your problem. Thank you, Dana

Try turning the ignition to on and wait about 10 minutes. Assuming it has been flashing, it will stop when it is reset. This problem will most likely occur again in the future.

SOURCE: The serpentine belt routing diagram

Rather than by pass the AC pulley You can actually buy a dummy pulley. It has the same position and size as the the AC pulley but has a frame instead of the AC assembly. In this way you can remove the A and keep all belts etc. the same. The following site has a diagrams for the '95 marquis belt route:-

If not, there's a fuel pump reset button,I believe in the trunk(safety switch in case of collision).
