It is gas. And does not have a turbo. its a 1996 5 speed 1.9 twin cam

ok, this may be a strange question...you did put regular gas in it and not diesel ? or maybe some oil mixed with the gas you put in...?? sounds like it just burning off oil from somewere..
Ive seen in some cases were the vacuum modulater valve from the transmission would go bad and **** transmission fluid in the intake and burn it out and smoke...

  • Michael Cassella May 27, 2011

Your car has no modulator valve....I was thinking out...check all vacuum lines and pull them off and make sure there is no oil resido on them....

running a vehicle completely out of fuel is not the best thing for them. Any trash or debris that might have accumulated inside of the tank then has the chance of getting sucked thru the fuel pump and into the fuel filter. If you are lucky installing a new fuel filter will get you running again.

How do i change the fuel filter?

First off check the fuel Injectors fuel filter and air filter as for the white smoke sounds like you're burning oil if you ran out of gas the sediment at the bottom of the tank goes in to you're fuel system

Try changing your engine temp sensor, it won't triger a fault code but sets ecu to a defalt setting of -20 or 200 degrees, causing an over fuel situation. Not a garanteed fix but for under $20 it is worth a shot.

Here are your possible problems. 1)Leaking injectors(Rare), Leaking Fuel Pressure Regulator(Common) Bad Engine Temp Sensor. (Common), Here is what i would check. Find the Regulator and pull off vacuum line, (located on fuel rail near injectors) check if there is fuel present in line. If yes replace regulator. Check temp sender with a scanner your looking for a reading in the (-) or below 140deg F, when car is first started and smoke present if yes replace engine temp sender for computer(not sender for guage!) IF both those pass inspection replace injectors(Not common problem)

Hello,

Black smoke is usually a sign of the accelerator pump set wrong, a choke plate could be partially closed and it could also be a really clogged air filter. If you pulled the air filter and the car turned on with no problems then replace it as this is one of the reasons for black smoke. It's not often a gas vehicle blows black smoke. The vehicle is starving for air.

Dumps raw gas into engine

Just a few things to check. Take off the fuel filter and make sure there is no water in it. If you have put in different spark plugs than AC Delco, then change them to AC Delco. If you haven't looked at the plugs or the fuel filter, then it is way past time to replace the filter and new AC Delco spark plugs only. These places that insist that you use Bosch plugs or split fire plugs don't know ****. The Delco plugs are made especially for your engine and will out last those cheap non-working Bosch plugs.
If the fuel filter and plugs don't fix it, make sure your air filter intake isn't stopped up with a bird's nest. Happens a lot. If it still misses after new plugs, you may have a fuel injector sticking.
The bad smoke is the gas-thinned oil passing the rings and unburnt fuel smoke. The missing really bad is most likely fuel soaked spark plugs. Make sure you change the oil while changing the plugs or you will have a redo. Let us know if any of this helps. Dale
