Question about 2000 Chevrolet Astro

Have a 200O Chev astro van no signal going to the injectors. I have power but no ground pulse signal? Is this my contol module, cam sensor or what? I have had the same problem with one of these before. Something I'm missing????????? I'm stuck please help

Well the cam sensor is easy, so if it were me i'd try that first-ECM's usually do not go bad, especially selectively. NO codes?

1993 chevy astro van 4.3 eng, fuel pump and throttle body injectors won't cycle when the key is turned to on. I replaced fuel pump & relay, ignition module.


injectors get signal from ECU
so no pulse at the injectors ?
is the crank angle sensor and all other sensors ok

any chance you have a diagnostic tool
any other fault codes

Wont start. it has injector pulse but no spark


is there power and ground to the coils?

If there is injector pulse than the crank sensor has to be good. Injector pulse and spark are both calculated off from the signal from the crank sensor.

Checking for power and ground to the coils is a good place to start. If that checks out than either there is a wiring issue in between the PCM and the coils or possible the PCM has failed.

My 96 Cadillac Eldorado has no spark coming from quoil


quoil ? Coil ! This is a very complex ignition system ,rather replacing parts an costing yourself a lot of money do yourself a favor an take it to a ASE certified repair shop ! Could be any number of things ,from one of the two crankshaft sensors , cam sensor , ignition control module , engine computer etc.. Are there any codes stored in the PCM ? That's the first thing that should be done , have a scan tool hooked up !
The ignition system uses a waste spark method of spark distribution. During cranking, the Ignition Control (IC) module monitors the crankshaft position sensor signals. The signals are used to determine the correct pair to spark first. After the crankshaft position signals have been processed by the IC module, it sends a fuel control reference pulse to the PCM. When the PCM receives this pulse it will command all eight injectors to open for a priming shot of fuel in all cylinders. After priming, the injectors are left OFF for the next eight fuel control reference pulses from the IC module (two crankshaft revolutions). This allows each cylinder a chance to use the fuel from the priming shot. During this waiting period, a cam pulse will have been received by the PCM. Now the PCM begins to operate the injectors sequentially based on true crankshaft position. However, if the cam signal is not present at start-up, DTC P0340 will set and the PCM will start fuel delivery in a random pattern with a 1 in 8 chance that fuel delivery is correct.
The crankshaft position sensor signals are used only by the IC module. It is used for spark synchronization and to initiate reference pulses only (not passed to the PCM).

  2. Crank engine while observing the spark tester.

I have a 2000 astro van with a 4.3 it blew a intake gasket so I replace the gasket also the roller lifters in it.Now I have got it back together it cranks but it's dead on 4,5,6,cylinders I check it's not...


Sounds like the injectors may be bank fired-they all pulse at same time on each side or bank? If they are, all three grounds for the injectors will splice together and enter the computer on a single wire. So if you have battery voltage to the injectors, be sure and check the ground signal. You can check the pulsing with a noid light. Or if you use a test light, clip the test light lead to the positive battery post, and put probe in the ground side terminal on the injector connector. When engine is cranking, the test light should be blinking-meaning the ground for that injector is working.

92 astro van cpi 4.3 the injectors arent delivering gas to the cylinders. got gas to the injectors and good spark. the 2 wires on top of injector , with key on one is hot , is the other one...


Sounds like a bad ignition module. The module does two functions. It runs the ignition coil and also delivers the signal to the ecm to run the injectors. Sounds like it isn't putting out a tach signal.

No negative to my injectors


Fuel injector circuits typically have a power source tied to the ignition switch & the ground is controlled by transistors within the powertrain control module. Ground is only provided during engine operation & cranking. The easiest way to test this is a Noid light or test light. If there is no ground pulse while cranking you should inspect the ignition system. Primarily the Crankshaft Position Sensor. The crankshaft sensor tells the powertrain control module where the engine is in rotation so it can send a signal to the fuel injector at the proper time.

Things to check:
-Power to injector
-Ground pulse during cranking
-Crankshaft Position Sensor

No injector pulse at injectors:
a) check fuses
b) use scan tool to read RPM at PCM while cranking. Ask question specifying RPM PID data.
c) crank sensor/cam sensor/ign. module/wiring fault
d) stuff not plugged in properly
4) check fuses
5) dead PCM note PCM pulses injector ground based on sensor input, power is constant from ignition
how are you testing injectors theres something called a noid light auto parts store let you use them free you have to test it on the injector itself what did you car do before it died does it turn over but not start

ECM not providing pulsed ground to TBI. used noid light to test (no light), tested for power (12 volts found). suspected possible ECM, purchased one at salvage yard and replaced (did not fix). checked...


Yes, correct. There is only the cam sensor in the distributor for the ecm's cam/crank reference signal. Many factors are figured in for pulse width, getting the air/fuel mixture correct.
Have you checked the ground for the ecm? The CEL does work? Too odd that both computers had no injector ground control, you must have missed something. Use an ohmmeter when you checked for continuity on the injector ground wire?
