Replace ignition lock cylinder

Hi Alex, The ignition assembly is mounted onto the steering column with blind bolts. These are special bolts designed in such a way that the heads break off when tightened to the correct torque. We usually remove them with a cold chisel and hammer. An alternative is to cut a slot into which a screw driver can be fitted. Regards John

1990 Camry ignition will not go under "acc" position.

In a Camry this age it is most likely that the key and lock both are worn. Toyota ignition key barrels are known to wear. Both old Toyotas I have had did this.

Go to an auto locksmith and explain that you want a key cut with a little extra metal on the profile, due to wear, and see if that works.

If not you need a new ignition key barrel (just the centre, not the electrical bits). It can be made to fit the old key, however you might decide not to bother doing that as it isn't much trouble to have 2 keys for the car.

Ignition tumbler pin sheared off inside, don't know how to get it out. - 1998 ford windstar

Hi AJ, You'll need to remove the ignition barrel and take it to a lock smith. To remove the barrel look underneath the plastic cowling around the steering column and you will see holes recessed into it. Remove the screws with a star (Phillips screw driver) and then remove the cowling.. Unplug the ignition switch at the connection (follow the cables downward to the multi connector) and then look at the saddle clamp which holds the unit in position. The bolts are "blind bolts' which will need to be removed. I suggest using a cold chisel or cutting slots for a flat screw driver to fit. Once removed the barrel can be removed. Regards John

I have an Isuzu Rodeo and the key is stuck in the ignition any idea how to get it out? Year 2000

replace the whole ignition barrel with new key and get key programmed by dealer
can remove barrel and key by removing steering column covers turn ignition to on position and with small shank screw driver push in hole in outer top rear section of barrel assembly then pull out ignition lock barrel with key in it. fit new lock barrel and key, program new key into system and can get door lock barrels coded to suit new key or get code for old key and cut new key so it fits mechanical locks on the rest of the vehicle (just wont turn in ignition) 2 keys for vehicle.

Key's snapped off inside ignition

Hi I would suggest you ring the Automobile association, and see whether one of their mobile mechanics can solve your problem. extracting a car key from the barrel may be more difficult than it appears. He, the mobile man may have done it before and have the right tools for the problem.
