I notice brownish water running out of the bottom of my car hasn't done this before and it smell like anti-freeze, it didn't run hot . I let a mechnanic look at it and he said it might be my head gasket, or freeze point. Never said anything about the hose, . could this be true?

Yes, it could be either of those - though a rusted out freeze plug sounds like a stronger possibility. it would explain the brownish tint to the coolant.

WATER PUMP HAS A BUILT IN "WEEP HOLE" AT BOTTOM OF PUMP. YOU NORMALLY SEE SMALL SPOTS OF ANTI-FREEZE, BUT IF IT IS DRIVEN OFF THE TIMING BELT IT IS BEHIND PLASTIC COVERS. LOOK AT LEFT(DRIVERS) SIDE...WHICH IS FRONT OF ENGINE FOR DRIPPING FROM LOWER TIMING BELT COVER.

Had to replace radiator, also replaced two hoses. now it still seems to be needing anti freeze and is smelling like the motor is running hot still. have not seen any leaks as of yet looked while van was...

If you are still adding to your system its still leaking-could be a head gasket. Open the radiator cap while the motor is COLD and start it, then look to see if there are bubbles in your radiator. Also check your oil dipstick and if you see foamy or wet oil/water mix you have a head problem.

Is the air dam at the bottom of the front of your car intact? If not it will definitely cause the engine to run hot at highway speeds since not enough cooling air will be passing through the radiator.

if you r getting smell in car and fog on windshield, with known history for common problem, you have a heater core leaking, You could try a stop leak from a parts supplier, but you need a heater core, and is a rather big job, as entire dash needs to be pulled back to axcess

try stop leak, if that doesn't fix, you didn't waste alot of time and money

good luck, and if you wanna tackle job, let me know i will send guided steps to help you along

No heat smell burning antifreeze in exhuast

if you are smelling anti-freeze in the exhaust system and have no heat then you probably have a head gasket that is bad leaking anti-freeze into the combustion chamber and being burnt.the head gasket will need replacing.if the motor hasn`t gotten overly hot then the cylinder head is probably okay.

What is causing my car to run hot with a smell? its 199

The smell is most likely the anti-freeze you smell. You may need a new overflow cap, which over time will not hold pressure like it should and can cause you engine to run hot and lose coolant. It could be the water pump leaking, a hose leaking. Can you see where you may be losing coolant at? How often does it run hot? Do you have to re-fill after it runs hot. If you not having to add coolant, then your thermostat may be bad or the water pump. But losing coolant could be the overflow cap or a hose, and let's not forget the radiator could have a small hole or split somewhere. It's a matter of finding out where or what are it is leaking in.

the sweet sickly smell is normal for new anti freeze.once you have run the car for a couple of miles the smell will dissipate.the white foamlike stuff is chalk/lime in the water, harmless.

93 acura legend doesnt run hot for a few days after i add coolant, then it starts to run hot, its low on coolant, i smell coolant sometimes, but i never see it on the ground, no water in the oil, or steam...

Could be water pump yes. Look where the water pump shaft is and see right behind where the shaft enters the pump and see if you see a small hole on either side of the pump. See if there is any anti-freeze coming out of the that hole or anywhere around the water pump housing. If you see anti-freeze coming out then the pump is probably bad and needs to be changed. You could also be loosing it from the heater core although most of the time you will notice a substance on your inner side of windshield that when you try and clean it only smears. Looks like a film on the windshield inside of the car. You will also smell anti-freeze pretty strongly inside of the car especially when you use your heater.

Smell the coolant. Is there any hint of gas smell? Also look at oil, any coffee coloring indicates problems.
