Hello. Under your brake pedal is a switch with a plunger on, that activates your lights when depressed. Just follow up along the pedal and you will see (probably) a white switch. It sounds like the plunger switch is stuck in. These are quite cheap to replace and you might be able to prise the plunger switch out to turn the brake lights off

First check all fuses. If they look good, more than likely brake light switch is bad. Switch is mounted just above brake pedal under the dash. Small plastic switch w/a couple of wires coming from it. Easy fix.

Brake light stays on just happened 143000 miles

Check your brake switch as it could be faulty hence causing a close circuit which in turn causes the brake light to stay on.It is normally located at the top of the brake pedal.Hope this helps.

Left brake light stays on

Usually when your signal blinks rapidly it indicates a blown bulb.   Switch on your four-way flashers and check your bulbs at each corner.  On the brake light staying lit, check to see if the left-rear bulb is installed correctly and is the correct bulb for the application.  I've seen people force bulbs in sockets causing the braking element of the bulb to light instead of the parking element.  The braking element is much brighter than the parking element.
