The emergency brake on my 1997 jeep wrangler appears to be hung up. Do I need to bring the jeep to a shop for repair or can I work on it myself?

You can order the part and save some labor but not much. It only takes 30 minutes to take off the cable from underneath the chassis. You can get step by step instructions from autozone.com by registering fro free and then register your jeep...all for free. Thanks for using FixYa. By the way I dad the same problem on my 4x4 Ranger.

With just over 50,000 miles on my 2008 Jeep Wrangler (mostly all highway) Both of my rear pads and rotors need to be replaced.. Does anyone know if this is normal? My front pads and rotors are...

The front brakes are good at 30000 mile intervals ,because they do most of the stopping power. 50 to 60000 miles is about normal on the rear brakes. The most common ailment with rear brakes is the emergency brake not releasing. The cables for the emergency brake run under the jeep ,along the frame and rust keeps them from releasing

2005 Jeep Wrangler Emergency Brake Cable seems to be loose when pulled up, but seems to grab & hold when released?

You have to look under the car and see if the cable is broken. If it is'nt then it has to be ajusted.

Electrical ?

I have a 1997 jeep wrangler with the same problem and it started when I replaced the stock radio, with an after market one. The dash/parking lights are grounded to the stock radio,so if you can find a good body ground that should fix your problem. good luck.

Emergency brake won't release, 05 jeep wrangler

Hello smiversoon, My emergency brake did that too. I had it in for a clamp issue on my exhaust, and the person working on it said that it need replaced, by my honey, he said to just disconnected, I did use it anyways. So if you don't use yours just disconnect or have a new cable installed. Why it won't release I have no answer. But a good Jeep mechanic can tell you. Or if you put on Google search 05 jeep wrangler emergency brake won't release, hit search, I am sure others have similar story and a answer is not far away. Good Luck. Happy Jeepin'
