Assuming this is a 5 speed Automatic, There is a Shift Solenoid that is electrical and more than likely there is a Solenoid that went bad. If the Solenoid is not bad, then your Reverse Clutch went out, either way, you are going to a Transmission Shop for the repair.

Sorry for the bad news

How can i adjust the gear linkeage on my 2000 ford focus it is hard to select reverse gear occasionally.5 speed manual

You may want to grease the fork sliders on the top plate. Check the nylon thickness on the forks for excessive wear. Check for excessive shaft end play between the gears and the case. Make sure the detentes on the fork sliders fully engage. The shift linkage arms have bushings so make sure there isn't excessive wear on the reverse arm .

Same thing just happened to my 2008. I was driving to work and suddenly, no gears available (1-5 or reverse). Had it towed. Mechanic says linkage is connected and working. Has to drop the transmission. Minimum cost is $1,200.00!!!!!
