Question about 2007 Volvo XC90 V8 AWD Sport
The engine number is stamped on the Block and is completely different from the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). The VIN number is located on various places (In the Windshield on the Drivers side, in the Door Panel, sometimes, there are stickers on removable panels

As mentioned before the engine number is DIFFERENT from the VIN number and the like. To find it you have to get a flash light, and a rag. The engine sits sideways in the engine bay - as you are looking at the engine, standing in front of it, you should have the transmission to the right and the engine belts to the left (hint: there is usually a "Caution" sticker warning you of the moving belts). Make sure the engine is OFF when you are poking around it.
The Engine number (there is a type and a Serial No. for it) is on a white sticker - it is on the timing chain cover (in the middle) for V8s and 6 cyl). It is white with black letters and there should be two numbers - the Serial No and the Engine part number. You can move some of the hoses out of the way and just look down there with the flash light. You will need the rag to rub away dirt/oil to see it.
