The code is a 12, it is start of test it should be there, the most common thing on the GMC or any GM product was an idle control valve or motor which ever you want to call it, but you have already tried that. so the next most common thing was the pick up assembly inside the distributor the magnets get week an when the RPM gets slow the pick up is unable to read the magnetic pulse and when this happens the on board computer system thinks the engine stalled so it shuts off the injectors and then the engine stalls for real.

try replacing the distributor with a re-built one, the problem is so common that most auto parts stores keep them in stock.

I would recommend trying to clean the throttle body and maf. It really sounds like a IAC problem, but you replaced that. Only other thing it could be is a vacuum leak, but you said you dont hear much of that either. Try cleaning the throttle body and maf, also check the airfilter and make sure its nice and clean.

On a side note, have you checked the plugs and fuel filter? I would be curious to see if the plugs have carbon build up on them. Also, is there a rough idle or is it smooth?

I have a 1994 gmc sonoma its starts but dies as i put it in gear.

Check the Idle air control. This is a little stepper motor that controls the amount of air the engine gets at idle. If this sticks the engine wont get the proper amount of air in gear. You can also get the trouble codes pulled an post them. Then we can go further into this. Auto Zone will do this for free.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. When the engine is cold the leak is there but as the engine warms up the parts start to expand thus closing the gaps and sealing the leak. I had this problem on my personal vehicle and it turned out to be lower intake gaskets.

Problems with my 94 k1500 / changed idle control valv / map sensor / throttle control sensor /plugs,wires,cap,rotor ,and fuel filter / these are all the things i have bought but nothing i have done will...

it might be the ECU, when cold the computer raises the iddle to warm it up, when reaches temp., it dropes it down to normal iddle, but it might not know where the correct iddle is, it might be another sensor like a cam, map, throttle position senssor.

2002 gmc sierra, 3500, 8.1, flashing mil, dies, starts rough idle

First buy the alldata subscription for your unit and read the engine power management system, once you understand this then you will see you don't need a scanner, you can code out if it's a engine problem then read the codes itself with a paper clip. Then once you get the codes post them here to get a better answer, the more information you can provide the better the answer you will get. A digital test meter will be better than a scanner. Without understanding the engine management system you won't be able to fix it without replacing a lot of parts.

Your transmission torque converter lock up clutch is not unlocking, that kills the engine and is the cause of the OD light flashing.
