Broken bushing replacement should do it ................unless you went bonkers trying to force the shifter with gorilla strength! You might 'tweek' the linkage if you went ape, otherwise you should be ok, may have to make minor linkage adjustment to tranny. good luck countrycurt0

2003 Pontiac Montana unable to shift into gear. When I pulled into my drive way I couldn't put it into park and the gear shifter moves up and down very loosely and won't go into any gears.

U definitely have a mechanical issue. Hardest thing is getting down there to check it out.

U might ask a friend to get in the car and move the shifter so you can check movement under neath and see what it is not connecting with.

Transmission on 95 blazer shifted until installed now wont pull into gear..why

Is this true even when engine not running? If so, trans input shaft must not have gone into pilot bushing correctly, or clutch disk jammed it. suggest loosening trans bolts to see if it moves back as you do. Otherwise, shifter installed incorrectly. Stick shift, true?

I have a 5 speed manual trans , It goes in gear but has full throw left and right still, could this be a bushing or shift plate issue ?

Most likely a problem with the linkages, if it goes into all gears. I thhink you got it right with linkages.

5 spd manual trans, shifter doesn't have enough side to side movement to actuate 1st & 2nd gears. Shifter may be at fault? Bushings all seem intact at cable ends. It's the Lt cable that controls the...

Check the busings on BOTH ends of the shifter cables. First check underneath the center console that your bushing didn't break and cause your shifter to be limp and not move anywhere. This is a very common problem and can be remedied permanently by getting the delrin bushing found on ebay.

Next, if the above is fine, check the clips on the shifter side under the hood. There are 4 clips. Two hold the cable ends to the tower and slide horizontally. The other two hold the cables onto the transmission and slide on vertically. Sometimes these clips fall off and makes the shifter inoperable.

Finally if all of the above checks out the last possibility is that your shifter tower metal tab that the shifter cables attaches to is broken and sliding instead of pushing or pulling. This happened to my car but is not likely as my manual was in a raced Saturn previously so wear from that most likely caused it to break.

Shifter won't shift gears

Have someone look @ linkage on trans. while someone moves shift lever thru the gears. If lever @ trans doesn't move then its in the linkage between the column and trans. (possible clip or pin broken @ linkage jounts). If lever @ trans moves then its a trans. internal prob.
