The most common cause of a non-starting car is the battery. It is either weak, (low voltage) dead, (zero voltage) or has bad connections. (corroded or loose) I will assume you have a fully charged battery with good connections. (both to battery and starter relay)
If you remove the starter switch lead (small wire) from the starter relay and apply +12v from the battery to its respective prong or lead on the relay, and your starter cranks, your starter switch is faulty. (not to be confused with your key switch). If you jump the two large wires together on the relay and it cranks, then the relay is faulty. If you jump the two large wires together and nothing happens, then starter is faulty, or wires to starter are loose or broken. Picture of starter switch prong on the relay is pictured. NOTE: sparks are to be expected, so don't be too scared. Pictured is a starter relay that is seperate of the starter, on models with starter and relay mounted together, its very similar.

1994 pontiac sunbird;i turn key on everything inside works.turn key over i get nothing

could have faulty starter or starter solenoid.hook test light make you a test light with longer wires and 12 volt bulb with socket go junk yard find good bulb with socket.hook test light to starter and see if test light lights up if so your starter or starter solenoid has a open winding. if test light dont light up could have blowed fuse to transmission neutral switch or neutral switch could be bad.try to start vechicle in neutral if vechicle starts your transmission neutral switch out of adjustment or neutral switch faulty check make sure wires going to neutral switch is damaged.

I AM TRYING TO REPLACE MY STARTER ON A 1997 CHEV LUMINA 3.1 V6. I NEED A DIAGRAM OF THE STARTER

Hello Larry...Here are the steps to take. Detach the ground (black) battery cable. Lift the front of your vehicle with a floor jack, support it with jack stands and chock the rear wheels.
Unfasten the retaining nuts holding the heavy (battery) cable and the thin wire to the back of the starter solenoid (the small cylinder mounted on top of the starter motor) with a wrench. Move the heavy and thin wires out of the way.
Loosen the two mounting bolts holding the starter motor to the engine block with a ratchet, large ratchet extension and socket. Hold the motor assembly with one hand and finish removing the two starter mounting bolts. Make a note of the position of each mounting bolt, since they are of different sizes, and of any shims located between the starter motor, mounting bolts and engine block.
Remove the starter motor from the vehicle

To Install:
Position the new starter motor in place with one hand and install the two mounting bolts finger tight with your free hand, along with any shims installed with the original starter. Failing to replace the shims may cause the starter to grind against the flywheel or engage and fail to start the engine

Tighten the two mounting bolts with the ratchet, extension & socket.
Install the heavy cable and wire in their respective mounting studs at the back of the starter solenoid and install the retaining nuts finger tight. Tighten the nuts with the wrench; (careful not to overtighten)
Lower your vehicle off the jack stands...Attach the ground (black) battery cable.

There you have it, included is a picture of the starter, good luck, i hope this helps.

How do you remove a starter from a 95 gmc jimmy

Disconnect the battery first . look on pasenger side of motor close to transmission . you should see it next to the oil pan. on top is a part that looks like a mini starter thats the bendix with a big battery cable and small wires . lable and remove the wires . Should be two bolts 15mm or 9/16 , remove these but be carefull as when the last one is removed the starter will fall . on some models there may also be a small support brace that will be needed to be removed . Check the new starter with the old in shape and size . Also check the teeth count on the starter . It's always wise to change the bendix and the starter as a unit . reassyemblly is backwards of pulling the starter . Hope this helps you.

Need to know the location of the starter trying to explain to a 17 year old where it is and how to remove

It is on the bottom passenger side of the engine at the rear. Follow the large power wire from the battery and you will see it. It is round and has a small round solenoid (or Bendix) on it. Make sure to: 1)disconnect the battery, 2) remove the wires from the starter one set at a time and mark them so you don't get them mixed up. Remove the two bolts (5/8" I think) and pull the starter out. Replace the solenoid also.

1984 ford f-150 4x4 ignition wiring diagram i need to see a break down wire for wire from starter to soloid to voltage regulator new starter new ignition module new started soloid and vechicle will not...

when looking at it from the front the most left is from the battery, now going right from there the little pin is from ignition, basically to flip this giant switch on. next little pin goes to your fuel shut off relay, it will turn on that relay to send power to your pump while cranking, next is the large out. far right. that goes to your starter.

How do i change the starter on a 96 century

If it's the 3.1 or the newer 3100 the starter should just be a couple 13 and 15mm bolts. Plus the nut for the cable. Hope this helps.
