The P0455 code indicates a leak in the evaporative gas system.

A loose, improprely seated, or defective gas cap will set the code in the computer.

Insure the gas cap is on and working as it should most caps gives a ratcheting clicking sound when seated. Inspect the cap for any damage and if found replace it.

If in doubt replace the gas cap.

I learned the hard way that you cannot buy a replacement gas cap from Auto Zone and have it fit on a Chevy Equinox. I tried for over two months thinking there had to be some other issue (there was), but soon as I gave in and bought a cap from dealer, one of the codes cleared. Don't try to save money. For a few dollars more, it is worth it. I still have other code problems due to battery replacement, but learned my lesson on the gas cap.

I just bought a used 2005 Nissan Sentra from a local dealer. It was running OK but within one week the "Service Engine Soon" light came up and has been on so far. Autozone read out two codes:...

Yes, the defect is clearly in the valve: as the error says it's non responsive and stuck partially open. It's not a big problem, the engine will just run a little rough and use more fuel.
To fix that just replace the valve and check all the pipes.

You shouldn't have anything to worry about. A loose gas cap will throw a check engine code in most newer vehicles. As long as you tightened it up, you are fine. The light sjould go off on it's own before your next refill, but if it doesn't take your car to an Advance or Autozone and they will clear the code for you for free. There is no danger in driving your car with the light on for this trouble code. Have a great day.

remove fuel cap and reinstall it, tighten for 3 clicks your PCM recognized a small leak in your fuel system usually caused by a loose fuel cap. If the problem persists replace the fuel cap

Check Engine Light won't go off

If you have an Advance Auto Parts store where ever you are, they will read the code and tell you exactly what to code is and what it means. Any mechanic who "guesses" isn't a mechanic at all - he's a thief. Emissions leak can be any number of things, but not the gas cap!

Check Engine light on 1998 BMW Z3 roadster

yes the light is because of the gas cap being gone (sets code in evaporative emissions system), replace the gas cap, disconnect the battery for five minutes and that will turn of/reset the light, make sure u have the radio code before u do this, if u don't u will have no radio after the battery is disconnected..

05 explorer gas cap warning light

Your gas cap could be losing pressure, bad seals. Most of the time the light goes on cuz no one closes the gas cap all the way, by rotating it right till they hear 3 clicks.

A light still on after 3 clicks, go to autozone, by a new cheap gas cap - under $20
