Question about 1998 Ford Escort
Your tranny is craping out, i had a 96 with the exact problem, the fix was to replace it, and at the point that i took it in it couldnt even be refurbished.

Thanks I rechecked the Trans fluid during daylight Hrs and noticed that it looks like someone put Oil in the transmission... The linkage is shifting fine it just wasnt finding the right gear at the time after the car cooled down Reverse seems to be out now . I am going to change the filter and fluids and Hope for the best... Thanks for your reply..

It sounds like linkage between shifter and tranny has slipped.
