Clean the IAC (idle air controle) located at the throttle body with brake clean, remove the intake duct, there is a cut out that allows air to pass to mix with the fuel inside the trottle body (about an inch or two beyond the lip), it's either stuck (most cases) or gone bad, if you disconnect the electrical plug it should stop the erratic idle, but you have to plug it back in. I spay wd-40 in the same orfice to lubercate the IAC

I have a 1990 toyota cressida which died as I was passing another car. had to advance timing to get it to start but will not take gas

Sounds like it jumped timing. That would be the first thing I would check. about everything has to come off the front of the engine to check.

1987 Toyota Camry. Idle doesn't drop. Stays very high. No clue why. Also goes through a lot of gas and found out muffler and catalytic converter aren't hooked up. Ideas of where to start?

check your vacume hoses and if iyt has an idle controll valve that is off of the air intake. that should be the only things that would effect it

1990 cressida over revving. where is idle screw on carby?

It sounds like it may need more than just an adjustment, the mixture screw is on the side down reasonably low close to the base plate, there are lots of different carbs used but the idle screw is usually right by the linkage point.

1988 toyota crissada, runs hot, idles to high.going 5 miles per hour and speedomter say 130 mile per hour, has very little power.

While the engine runs hot there is a possibility that the RPM sensor goes off and shows the wrong reading. First of all check the cause for the overheatting before we can go further.
Some tips were given in your earlier request.

I have a 1988 toyota van le cargo 2.2 engine

Try spraying starting fluid into the intake of the air cleaner while someone else starts the car. Continue spraying the starting fluid for about 15-20 seconds. If the car starts, more than likely your fuel pump is bad. Check your fuses, and make sure you are getting power to the fuel pump. jpwtruck@yahoo.com

Truck idles wierd with a/c on

In this series of truck they used an idle up solenoid mounted on the side of the carb and is controlled by a vacume switch. If the idle setting is too high the cut out switch will shut off vacume and idle drops and goes up again because it is too low for the load. This will go indefinitly till you have the idle set down on idle solenoid screw.this is basicaly a very easy job if you know where the screw is. Dont set wrong one
