1975 f250 with 460 starts but won't run after releasing ignition.

check the voltage of the coil ( stamped on the bottom
if it has 7.5 volts then the problem is the run circuit from the ignition switch to the coil or distributor
It turns over and fires on the start circuit as that is straight 12 volts but when you release the key to the run position it goes through a resistance wire or block to drop it to 7.5 volts or the coil will burn out
with the key in the run position connect a multimeter to the coil wire and read the voltage ( if it is not there you have not connected up the circuit properly
if you have a voltage there and it is 12 volts make sure the coil is a straight 12 volt coil

No 8 volt source out of ecu to the distributor

If you lost the 8 volt output you need to go to the engine juction box and check the fuses especially the fuel pump fuse. When you turn the key on the ASD relay turns on the fuel pump and the ECM. From there you should have a output to the Distributor.11_2_2011_3_33_02_am.gif11_2_2011_3_33_37_am.gif

if your car is running properly,i don't know why would they want you to change your distributor.the only thing i would do is remove the distributor(but make sure you mark it before taking it off so you won't get it out of timing)then remove the old o-ring that is on the distributor shaft and replace it with a new one.reinstall the distributor, then align the mark that you made and tighten it up.this should stop the oil leak.i hope this helps you.good luck and take care, manny

since you have changed all of these parts, you might as well get a new or used distributor.this could be the problem.the only reason i am suggesting it is because it has happened to me on a nissan altima and on a honda civic.i am not saying this will be the problem, but with all that you have replaced, this will be about the only problem that i can think of.i really hope this information helps.take care, manny

No spark between the distributor and coil

You need a voltmeter or test light to find 12 volts on one side terminal of the coil--the other side terminal goes to the distributor. If both sides have 12 volts, then the points may be dirty. If no 12 volts on the coil, trace that wire back to a resistor block on the firewall--check both ends for 12 volts. If still no 12 volts, check the ignition switch. Have you checked for a blown fuse?
Generators are usually nearly totally enclosed and long with several terminals sticking out. Alternators are shorter and wider with lots of ventilation slots and several terminals on the back. They also have a prominent fan behind a smaller pulley. You might see if you can find a Haynes service manual for this car if you are on your own.

I have a 1994 plmouth voyager 2.5 liter.

Using a 12 volt test light and a manual determine the following - Do you have 12 volts going to the coil? Do you have 12 volts going to the distributor? Do you have 12 volts at the PCM?Then check these out - How is the cap and rotor condition?Heck just change them. Is the distributor rotating when you crank the car? Get this info and repost me.
