That is old,so you go to a local
repair shop

You ask if they have a Data Base called
ALL DATA or Mitchell

Then for free or a couple dollars they print
what you need

All Data dont have the whole thing, my problem is that the throtle body isnt getting power and its not the fuses.

  • Anonymous May 26, 2011

Fuse are seldom a problem. At least you know
what one is. Unlike most of our question folks
Power to the TPS or Injectors? What doesn't ALL DATA have
Are you down & out. How did all this come about?

  • zordoth85 May 26, 2011

well we bought the cougar knowing that the TB needed replaced and after we put a new one in we couldnt get the car started. by the way it sounds its the inertia switch, per All Data, but when we checked it it operated just fine. the injectors work cuz the car we got the TB out of worked just fine, but was in a wreak.... but it ran

Can someone shoot me a Vacuum diagram 1985 mercury cougar v8 5.0? Focusing on the engine compartment, the canister purge valve area, throttle body etc? Thank u!

Not as easy as you think. Manufacturers put out many variations within a model year those days. AutoZone lists vacuum diagrams for Mercury products, but by engine size, not model. There are 26 different configurations for the 5.0 liter engine in 1985. Some would be for Federal models, other for California models. Having certain o0ptions change the diagrams as well. The under hood label for the vacuum diagrams usually has a three letter identification symbol that (example: CAY) that specifies the exact diagram used. If you can find the label or the code we can better help you.

Where can i find a new alternator wiring harness or (diagram to make one) for a 1985 mercury cougar that has a 5.0 engine. The local area parts/salvage dealers do not have this part.

My software won't let me link the diagram to the internet. So I will describe it to you. I'll use factory
color codes, so if you have any harness left you can
splice to it. On the regulator there's 4 terminals one
ot them is (A) from this a yell/wht wire that go's to a
fusable link then to the + battery side of the solenoid.
The (F) orng/ltblue wire go's to the field terminal on
the alternator.The S or stator wire (wht/blk) go's to
the Stator term on the alt. The I or ign. wire (ltgrn/wht)
go's to the alternator light. (or gauge) Next the B or
battery connection wire (blk/orng) from the alternator
go's to the fusable link, the same one that the yell/wht (A) wire went. Also there is a wht/blk wire
that runs from the stator term. on the alt. to the
choke heater. Hope this helps. Good luck.
