Question about 1997 Nissan Pickup

1 Answer

Just had the air flow sensor assembly replaced for $627. They diagnosed it and said that is what was causing it to stall once it got warmed up and also what made the check engine light to come on. The check engine light has come on and off since 1999. I got the truck brand new. No one has ever been able to figure out what it was. It throws a P304 which is a spark plug...change that and it stills comes on and off all the time. But the truck hasnt ever had any major problems. And I feel like they are changing parts for nothing...just guessing and it is costing me an older woman a lot of money and the problem still is not fixed.

I would be ring nissans head office and complain like hell especially if you reported it under warranty and tell them you want it fixed and re-imbusted for the money you have paid to have it fixed or you will take it further.

My 1.6 ford focus zetec is taking too long to start either cold oo warm. (2007)

Any number of thing's could cause this condition , Weak fuel pump , low fuel volume , an engine sensor , mass air flow for one , A crank sensor that is going bad , cam sensor etc... your best bet would be to have it diagnosed professionally , rather then guessing an just replacing parts

P0421 code

"FWIW, according to the Mazda factory service manual, the P0421 code indicates "Warm up catalyst system efficiency below threshold".

The DETECTION CONDITION for this code indicates "Number of heated oxygen sensor (rear) inversion becomes closer to that of heated oxygen sensor (front)".

POSSIBLE CAUSES are:

Warm up three way catalytic converter deterioration
Leakage exhaust system
Heated oxygen sensor (front) malfunction
Heated oxygen sensor (rear) malfunction
Mass air flow sensor malfunction
Throttle position sensor malfunction
Vehicle speed sensor malfunction"
I copied the above from a discussion group on the PO421 code. The code can be caused by any of the above listed problems. The vehicle should be further inspected and diagnosed, so you do not have components replaced that do not need to be replaced.

My 1999 caddilac eldorado feels like it wants to stall while in gear

Several conditions could be the cause of your problem.
  1. Bad MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor - often responsible for erratic idling
  2. Bad TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) - controls idle speed under all conditions ie warm, cold, + with A/C running.
It's possible to diagnose further by getting a diagnostic test done. Most chain auto parts stores will run a free diagnostic test to obtain a OBDII code (these codes specify which components are either failing or not responding) It is possible that a combination of both the MAF and TPS are contributing to your problem. If the car will idle when cold and only wants to stall once warm and under way, it's more likely than not to be the TPS.

I have a 1993 grand am. it will run but when you put it in gear it dies

if this vehicle has a mass air flow sensor look at the tube coming from throttle body to airbox your mass air flow sensor should be mounted in this tube if a tear or rip occurrs in this tube after the maf sensor when you put car in gear motor rocks rip opens and lets in air that the computer knows nothing about creating lean condition causing a stall also your torque converter clutch could be locked up causing stall once in gear

Warms up, check engine light comes on. then turns off car

sounds like you have a bad "Idle Air Control Valve" if it stalls while hot could also be a bad MASS AIR FLOW Sensor/MAF Sensor but it may be only sure said once you plug in an OBII Scanner so you can read that code that is causing that check engine light to come on..

Good luck.

Car stalls periodically but is easily restarted.Stalled once doing 40mph.

Generally this problem is a defective Mass Air Flow Sensor. If you can get a known good Mass Air Flow Sensor to try that would be great. But the MOST likely cause is that sensor.

Check engine & traction control lights on

It might be the water temperature sensor for the brain not reading the right temperature, causes wrong parametres in the warming up periode, and then the diagnostic lamp will show.
