Set the timing about 5 to 10 degrees before tdc. This should take care of the performance and the centrifugal advance will take care of the rest.

1977 c10 is not getting fire at all it turns over but won't crank

This is probably an old ignition system so tracing where power is, and isn't would be my approach.
- Spark at a plug lead?
- Is there a separate coil or is it a breakerless distributor with the coil ol top.
- If there is a coil, pull lead at distributor end, remove distrubutor cap, and manually open and close points (if there). may need new points and condensor OR
- If breakerless, sometimes the wires to the transistor will break and there will be no spark.
Here's a great link if you're into the technology.

I have a 1977 Ford f-250 with a 460. I am not getting spark have changed ignition module. Have power to coil

Good chance on a vehicle that age that the pick-up coil in the distributor is bad. Also you need to make sure the distributor is turning. If the distributor is not turning, you could have a locked up oil pump, or a bad timing chain.

Pionts setting for 460 engain

don't forget when setting the timing on a 460 to pull off the vacuum advance hose from the distributor and block it off to prevent a vacuum leak , set the timing at 8 degrees BTDC, the points should be set at gap .017" the firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8

I need to know the ignition timing for a big block 460 ford also do the cylinders fire straight down or do they go from one side to the other of the engine

Your cylinders 1-4 passenger side,5-8 drivers side. Firing order is 15426378, looking at engine #1 is at 1 o'clock position, and order goes counter clockwise. The timing varies from year to year - call Ford w/your eng. # for exact timing. To get you in the ballpark,12 degrees BTDc if you have a vac guage, connect to a vac source on intake, crank motor up turn distributor until you get highest vac reading, then back off 3 lbs of vac.

power steering pump goes to the lower left(as you sit in the vehicle) A/C compressor above that and somewhat towards the centre. Alternator goes on the lower right(this the one that is not obvious) Hope this helps!

Ford 460 - no spark

Since the distributor is in the front on the 460 and you replaced the water pump check the connection plug coming from the distributor. If you disconnected it when removing the water pump you may not have made the connection tight enough to complete the connection. Look for pinched wires also. And your engine does not have points. You have a breakerless ignition system in the distributor. The air gap should be set at 8 thousands of an inch. Check the gap. Good luck.
