Question about 1995 Geo Prizm

I have a 1995 geo prism 1.6 lsi Put new pluggs and a cap and roater wires double checked everythings tight started out was hard to get it started then once u started it it would idle fine tell u put it in gear then it dies evrytime or if u let of the gas when u go around the corner now it has no spark at all plz if anyone has any information as to what could be the problem plz ... not sure how to pull coil only wires comming off cap are the 4 plug wires if anyone has any insight plz a little help would be great thanks

Well, first of all, you have a coil-in-cap design. So, my best thought would be to make sure all wires going to the distributor are in tight, and that you've got the cap on tight, and work from there.

Ok, Your questions a little confusing but lets see if I can get it. The issue sounds like the timing is off and the reason it is dying when you let off the gas is because the Timing belt is stretched.

I agree with what you have been told. Its most likely either the distributor or ignition module. Unfortunately, unless you have the equipment youll have to take it in to a mechanic.

The engine cranks, gets fuel, but no spark. engine check light fault code says to check the crankshaft position sensor. where is the sensor located on '97 prism lsi 1.6?


Sounds about right, the sensor is normally towards the back of the engine maybe by or under the oil filter (i'm not familiar with your car but the system is the same on most) normally held in place with 1 10mm spanner size bolt, it will probably have 2 very thin wires plugged into it. to remove it just disconnect the wiring plug and undo the bolt, then pull the sensor out. problems that happen with them is that they get carboned up on the end and sometimes cleaning them off and refitting cures the problem, if it doesnt then is "go buy a new one". It really isnt a hard job to once you find its location, other symptoms include the engine will start and run fine 9 times out of 10 then it just wont run at all. I hope this helps you as problems with the EMU which is the next step can be expensive.

Yes, because the specs are different... most manufatures change the specs on vehicles every four years, so 90-94 is most likely all the same, but then you will have 95-99 an so on an so on.. Good Luck

Headlights keep flickering


Check the wiring to the headlight. Maybe where the headlight wires meet the headlight are loose. Sounds like a wiring issue.

Your abs light is permanent. Most people don't bother to fix this, it is expensive, and your car is getting old. It means that the anti lock brake system has failed and needs repair. But your brakes still work fine, just don't have anti lock. So I'm not saying tape over the light on the dash, but.

1995 geo prizm lsi starting problems.


There is a long list of possible causes, You would have to check into each individual one.

1.) Failing fuel pump.
2.) Bad valve seat/seal
3.) Sticking valve
4.) Timing is off, Reset timing to 10* BTDC
5.) Clogged fuel injector(s)
6.) Your new ignition coil (as im assuming thats what you meant by "Igniter") may be faulty.
7.) Wiring to the new ignition coil may be faulty
8.) Spark plug wires not firmly in place.
9.) Faulty Distributor pickup coil and/or wiring harness/wiring.

The list goes on and on, Some are more likely then others. Personally, from experience (having owned 4 95 geo prizms myself in my lifetime) i would go with the clogged injectors, Fuel pump, and distributor pickup/wiring in that order. Those engines last quite a long time when properly cared for, An internal engine problem (Although possible) is unlikely in my opinion.

Tail light fuse keeps blowing on my 1995 geo prism


Took it to the shop. The side marker lights were missing on my son's car. The wiring loops from the side marker lights to the tail lights. As the wires were touching in the front, they shorted out the tail lights. Capped the wires, problem solved!
PS: ordered side marker lights, too.
