The check engine light comes on in a car when the engine is experiencing a problem. So apart from bad spark plugs there are other possibilities when the check engine light comes on while depressing the gas pedal. Intake leak, defective Mass Air Flow sensor (MAF) or clogged catalytic converter. Take your car to the nearest auto zone and scan the computer to pullout the codes. It will give you an idea about what else is needed to get the car work without problem and get it fixed.

Engine wont turn over

You have asked a question which cannot be answered without a LOT more information. Like what do you mean, won't turn over? By hand? or by starter? And if starter, have you checked all electrical start systems? Have you TRIED turning it over by hand?? You should have done that FIRST before you ever tried to start it.

If you care about the condition of the engine after 12 years, you have a lot MORE work to do than worry about whether it will crank over. I had the same situation last year with a car that had sat for 10 years, and I worked on it about 2 weeks (off and on) before I ever hit the starter. (Hint: you do NOT want to suck in 12-year old gas and 12-year old oil. Another hint, pull all the plugs and squirt light oil - Marvel Mystery Oil, drain ALL the gas, oil and coolant and replace.) Oh, and by the way, when I finally hit the starter, it fired right up. Now get to work and check back in 2 weeks.

My 2002 dodge intrepid 2.7 has a power surge issue. I hit the gas and the lights go bright but then the gauges on the dash stop working. Hit the gas again and they start working for a second but go off...

When you accelerate the engine it rocks a bit under the hood. A loose/internally broken ground wire/cable under the hood is a possibility. Look for any and all wires/cables under the hood that might be loose. Wiggle all of these wires and don't forget any ground wires coming off the negative battery post. There are, I believe, ground wires at different areas under the hood. You might find your problem with one of these ground wires. The other possibility is at idle not a ton of charge is being generated from the charging system. Above idle an over charging voltage regulator can be the problem. It may be integrated into the PCM or be part of the alternator. A voltage charge test will reveal this. So, there are two possible sources of malfunction. Best of luck. And don't give up, you'll figure it out.

Car not starting or turning over indicates towards multiple possibilities. It can be issue with battery or weak battery. But if battery checks out ok, then it can be starter issue or faulty alternator or problem with low fuel pressure or no spark at spark plugs due to dirty spark plugs or faulty ignition coil or injectors getting cracked or dirty and needs to be cleaned.

To confirm the problem, the basic troubleshooting is required.

Got a 1995 nissan maxima with 179,000 that hesitates or misses.

hello, also check plug wires, distributator, cap and rotor button, you can check plug wires,at knight time, crank engine, with hood up, walk around car, look at plug wires while motor is running, see if any sparks are coming from plug wires, also if it clunks, like you said, you may have broke motor mount, transmission mount, check for air lines leaking also

I hit the gas and its like something is stallin it . when im at the light it wants to turn off and when im parking . whats the problem ?

I would check the fuel system first. Try putting in some injector cleaner. Check to fuel pressure at the fuel rail.
